‘School Spirits’: Do Xavier & Nicole Have Feelings for Each Other? Stars Weigh In

Team Living is back on the case in School Spirits Season 3. But this time, Xavier (Spencer MacPherson), Nicole (Kiara Pichardo), and Claire (Rainbow Wedell) have a new leader in Maddie (Peyton List), and their mission is to rescue their previous one (Kristian Ventura) from the ghost world.
With so much on their plates, romance is likely the last thing on the characters’ minds, but we found ourselves wondering where Xavier (Spencer MacPherson) and Nicole (Kiara Pichardo) stand. After forming an unexpected bond via an anonymous messaging platform, they were shocked to discover that they were each other’s pen pal in Season 2. So far in Season 3, their interactions don’t have any romantic undertones — so is a Xavier-Nicole relationship off the table?
Pichardo told Swooon in a joint interview with MacPherson, “I think it’s in the past because… really think about it. Imagine Xavier does it [gets with another friend of Maddie’s] again, one, and I don’t think Nicole would do that.”
After her “death” in Season 1, Maddie discovers that Xavier was cheating on her with Claire. Xavier’s guilt is partly why he becomes so determined to find out what happened to Maddie and, later, rescue her from the afterlife. Three seasons in, Xavier seems determined to redeem himself in Maddie’s eyes, which includes connecting her with the ghost of her father, whom Xavier is able to see in the Split River hospital.
After Maddie and Claire, MacPherson thinks his character has “probably washed his hands” of dating for the time being. He added, “I honestly don’t know that it ever was romantic [between Nicole and Xavier]. I think they just sort of had a real connection with one another, and they understood something about each other that no one else saw.”
“But they didn’t know who it was,” Pichardo chimed in. “I think if Nicole knew it was Xavier, she wouldn’t even have [messaged him] and vice versa.”
