Ahead of the Opening Ceremony, Netflix is diving into the sport of ice dancing, with a focus on select couples, including Paul and his longtime skating partner, Piper Gilles, in the docuseries Glitter & Gold: Ice Dancing.
The Canadian ice dancers have been skating together since 2011 and previously competed for Canada at the Olympics in 2018 and 2022. Paul also competed at the 2010 Olympics with his previous partner, Vanessa Crone.

Yes, Poirier is engaged to his longtime boyfriend, Kevin. The two got engaged in July 2025 and announced the news via social media.

“My kind of person 💛 (he said yes),” Paul captioned an Instagram selfie with his love. In the pic, they were both sporting rings on their left ring fingers. Kevin also shared a photo after the proposal, captioned, “New bling 💍.”
Paul opened up about the engagement in an interview with OutSports. “It was a very casual proposal at home during our evening routine,” he shared. “It was really nice to share that quiet moment together, and then to share the news with our families and closest friends. We’re both very excited!”
How long have Paul Poirier and Kevin been together?
Paul and Kevin have been together for more than five years. They started officially dating in January 2021. Although Kevin did not share a picture that featured Paul on his Instagram until September 2021, he marked the occasion of their one-year anniversary on January 13, 2022.

“365 days ❤️,” he captioned a selfie of the men posing together. On the same date in 2023, he acknowledged the occasion once again, captioning another shot, “Two years🫰🏼.” In 2024, he celebrated the anniversary by writing, “three years 🖤,” and sharing a photo with Paul in a pool.
While the pair didn’t become *official* until January 2021, though, Paul told OutSports that they first met in the fall of 2020.
When did Paul Poirier come out?
Paul did not publicly come out until June 2021. He made the public declaration in honor of Pride Month.
“This Pride Month is a really good opportunity to share a bit more about my story, how my sexuality has made me the person and the athlete that I am today, and also perhaps be a role model for so many young queer athletes who are growing up and not really sure how to navigate that as they go through the world of sport,” he explained at the time.
Of his decision to previously keep details about his sexuality out of the public space, he shared, “I’ve had this attitude that my private life is my private life and my life outside of skating is my life outside of skating. I haven’t necessarily allowed all of those things to [blend] together. I think with the lead-up to the Olympic Games in the next year, I definitely see opportunities to share what we do and who we are to a much wider audience, and that opportunity is not lost on me.”
