Savannah Guthrie has been cohosting the Today show since 2012, and viewers have gotten to know a bit about her family during that time. Several family members have even stopped by for visits to the morning show over the years.

In February 2026, the Guthries dealt with a major family emergency when Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing, with police eventually confirming that they believe there was a “possible kidnapping or abduction” at her Arizona home. Two days after Nancy’s disappearance, the spotlight has been put on Savannah’s brother-in-law as an alleged possible suspect, which police have denied (more on that below).

Scroll down to learn more about the situation and for everything we know about Savannah’s family.

What happened to Savannah Guthrie’s mom?

Nancy was reported missing in the Tucson, Arizona, area around noon on February 1. She was last seen the evening before, and authorities noted during a press conference that she was “not in good physical health.” On the February 2 episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, Jenna Bush Hager confirmed that Nancy takes medication “daily” and needs it to survive.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that Nancy did not have any cognitive issues, but revealed that the scene at her home was of “concern” to officials. The homicide department was called to the scene, which is not routine.

“We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that’s how this investigation is moving,” Nanos later added. Officials confirmed on February 3 that DNA samples taken from the home belonged to Nancy, but nothing was found “indicating the suspect.”

Savannah did not appear on the February 2 episode of Today and released the following statement: “On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.”

Later that day, she took to Instagram to add, “we believe in prayer. we believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. we believe in goodness. we believe in humanity. above all, we believe in Him. thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.
we need you.”

The journalist has an extremely close relationship with her mother, who was a stay-at-home mom when she was a child. Savannah previously revealed that she lived at home during her college years, but it was Nancy who eventually pushed her to move away and follow her dreams.

“She said, ‘If you can’t leave me, then I didn’t do my job right, Savannah,’” Savannah once shared on Today. “She just gave me permission to go, you know?”

How did Savannah Guthrie’s dad die?

Savannah’s dad and Nancy’s husband, Charles Guthrie, died when Savannah was just 16 years old. He suffered a heart attack at just 49 years old.

“My father died when I was entering my senior year in high school,” Savannah recalled on Today. “I then lived at home all through college. We didn’t have money to afford the dorm.” Of her decision to live at home during those years, Savannah added, “My sister and I really felt like we should stick with my mom and not leave her alone.”

Does Savannah Guthrie have siblings?

Yes, Savannah has two siblings. She is the youngest child in the family. Her older sister is Annie Guthrie, and her older brother is Camron Guthrie.

Amid the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance, Annie’s marriage to husband Tommaso Cioni has made headlines. Former NewsNation anchor Ashleigh Banfield reported on February 3 that Savannah’s brother-in-law may be a prime suspect in the case. The journalist cited a trusted law enforcement source with giving her the scoop.

Banfield reported that Annie and Tommaso were the last people to see Nancy alive on the evening of January 31. Annie reportedly had dinner with her mother, although Banfield noted that it’s unclear whether Tommaso was present. According to Banfield, Annie’s car has now been towed because of “some connection” to Tommaso.

However, police said that there are no suspects at this time. “We have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told TMZ. “Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results.”

Savannah has been married to her husband, Michael Feldman, since 2014. They first met in 2008 when she attended his birthday party with a mutual friend. Michael is a former political adviser who now works as a public relations and communications consultant.

Prior to her current marriage, Savannah was married to her first husband, Mark Orchard, from 2005 to 2009. Of the divorce, she said in 2025, “It was horrible and sad, and it broke my heart, and it took me years to recover. And I’m not blaming anyone, but I don’t really want to get into it.”

How many kids does Savannah Guthrie have?

Savannah and Michael share two children. Their daughter Vale was born in 2014, followed by son Charley in 2016.

While trying to conceive a second child, Savannah dealt with fertility struggles. She had a miscarriage and underwent two rounds of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) before Charley was born.
