It’s time to head back to Netflix’s Is It Cake? kitchen, but it looks a little different than past seasons. Not only is it decked out in pink, flowers, and hearts galore, but for the first time ever, baking couples will try to fool us with their uber-realistic desserts. In honor of Valentine’s Day, their love is on display right alongside their swoonworthy cakes. It seems that couples who bake together stay together.
In the new episodes, which also feature married couple Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross as guest judges, the dynamic duos are mostly focused on the competition instead of sharing their love stories, so we found ourselves wanting a little more insight into their off-screen relationship history. Kimberly & Taurus Adams
Kimberly is no stranger to baking competition shows, but it’s the first time her husband has joined her. In an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Taurus said, “That’s like a dream [to be on a show together].” In their show intro, Kimberly said that Taurus helps her in the kitchen with piping and deliveries.
While Kimberly’s medium is desserts, Taurus works in music as a church band director, drummer, and DJ. (He performs under the stage name #IamDjBird). Taurus met Kimberly at a concert, locking eyes from where she was in the audience and he was in the sound booth. They both were already following each other on social media, so Taurus messaged Kimberly afterward about ordering a lemon coconut cake.
It took about a year of messaging for them to go on their first date, and years later, Taurus proposed. They said “I do” in 2021 at the home of Taurus’ dad, a pastor, who officiated the ceremony. “I need a funny crazy to match my crazy funny,” Taurus said in the interview. “I’m a little bit crazier than her, but she’s right there with me. So, that’s what makes us being together so fun.”

Jason Hisley & Tyler Alexander Stiff
Based in Timonium, Maryland, Jason and Tyler describe themselves as an “opposites attract” couple. Jason’s been baking since he was a kid, while Tyler has a military background — so, no baking experience. They met because Tyler saw Jason on a TV show — he’s been on Food Network’s Cake Wars and more — and Tyler slid into his DMs. Jason proposed with the help of his bulldog, Bowser, by putting the ring on his back. The couple has been married for three years and honeymooned in Greece, which inspired their statue cake.

Alex and Amanda Rivera
Alex and Amanda are the only duo with baking experience. They married after a year of dating. Alex proposed using a magic lamp with a ring inside it, knowing Amanda loves Aladdin. Alex got a baking and pastry degree from the Culinary Institute, per The Montclair Girl. Then he met Amanda, who has a cosmetology license and artistic background, and they’ve been collaborating on cakes together for six years. They have a daughter named Isabella.
They own a Sayreville, New Jersey-based cake company called A Couple of Layers.
