Liric fans have long been holding out hope that Liz Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) will rekindle their romance on General Hospital. They have a complicated history — never forget the panic room era — but no one can deny the powerful chemistry between these two characters.
Swooon told GH viewers in our monthly soap romance preview that Ric will take Liz out on a date this month, which has renewed hope for a Liric reunion. But how does Rick Hearst feel about Ric and Liz’s relationship after all these years?
When asked by Michael Fairman if Ric truly loves Elizabeth, Hearst responded with an emphatic “yes.” He continued, “That’s always been the deep, true love of his life. When I say love of his life, it’s the first time he ever allowed himself to be somebody he’d maybe always wanted to be.”
Hearst acknowledged the lowest points in Ric and Liz’s relationship, specifically Ric kidnapping Carly and holding her in a panic room and drugging Liz. Even after all these years, the actor doesn’t think Ric’s feelings for Liz have waned.
“I think, like, anyone who has a long-lost love or a very first, dear love, that he feels that that was the one that got away,” Hearst said. “It will always remain there. This time around, even though they have him lean into ‘I’ll take whatever I can get,’ I think that was the last real sort of heart-to-heart the two of them had, and it was in Bobby’s, the diner, and she shuts him down.”
Liz’s rejection hit Ric “so deeply,” according to Hearst, that it’s caused Ric to ask himself, “Well, what do I do? Do I take that same sort of hurt and let it turn dark? Or do you go, it’s time to be a big boy?”
