Does Mikaela Shiffrin Have a Husband? Her Romance With Aleksander Aamodt Kilde
Mikaela Shiffrin has had a slow start at the 2026 Winter Olympics, but she returns to the slopes on February 15 for the giant slalom, then again on February 18 for women’s slalom. Amid her fourth Olympic run, Shiffrin has had the support of her partner, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
“We’ve been a rock for each other,” Kilde told Olympics.com in 2025, specifically referring to the recoveries both athletes had to undergo after crashes left them injured in 2024. “I think that’s how we go about stuff in general. We’re always supporting each other, we’re always trying to look at things in a positive way.”

The news was shared in a joint Instagram post, captioned, “🤗🫶💍👫🤭.” In the photos, Mikaela showed off her new bling from Aleksander at various angles. There were solo shots, as well as couple pics.
Aleksander appeared on his bride-to-be’s podcast in October 2025 and they dished on their wedding plans, noting that they’ve been a bit busy, so planning has taken a backseat. “We’re going to get married, guys,” Mikaela promised. “It’s going to happen. There’s just, like, a couple things that are going on right now.”
Aleksander noted that when he proposed to Mikaela, he knew she wouldn’t be ready to walk down the aisle just yet because of her schedule, and said he assured her that there was no rush.
“It’s not that we’re in a planning phase, but we’re in this weird sort of stage of, ‘Ooh, this could be really cool,’ or, ‘This could be super fun,’ and just figuring out what we want but not on a time schedule,” Mikaela added.
Who is Aleksander Aamodt Kilde?
Aleksander is an alpine skier from Norway. He became a junior World Cup champion in 2013 and made his Olympics debut in 2014. He returned to the Olympics in 2018 but missed out on medaling again. However, in 2022, he won a bronze medal in super-G and a silver medal in the alpine combined.
Aleks actually qualified for the 2026 Olympics, but announced he was withdrawing just three days before the Opening Ceremony.
“I have done everything I possibly could to be ready for the Olympics, but my mind and body are not performing the way I need them to,” he explained.
It had been a grueling two years for Aleksander, who suffered a brutal crash during a race in Switzerland in January 2024. He suffered a shoulder and calf injury. That July, Aleks found out that he had an “angry infection” in his injured shoulder, which required six weeks of IV antibiotics to heal.
How did Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde meet?
Considering they’re both professional skiers, it wasn’t that hard for them to cross paths. The pair first met in Chile “about 10 years ago,” Mikaela shared during the October 2025 podcast. They were in town for a media event for the brand Atomic and were the only two athletes who arrived the night before the event, so they had dinner with Mikaela’s mom and agent.
“It was a nice time and it was chill and whatever. A little bit awkward, maybe,” Mikaela shared, although Aleks didn’t think so. They then attended the media event the next day, and Mikaela admitted she wasn’t sure if Aleksander was interested in her. She recalled being “intimidated” by the crowd at the event, and said Aleksander came and sat next to her in the back of the room.
Afterwards, he messaged her on Facebook and asked when they were going to have dinner again, and when she responded, “We already had dinner,” he thought he was being “rejected.” Mikaela, on the other hand, was trying to be flirty, but Aleks didn’t pick up on it, and they didn’t speak again after that “for, like, six years.”
However, in 2021, Aleks sent Mikaela an Instagram message after her dad died, and they started talking again. They went public with their relationship in May 2021.
