Marriage Is the Hard Part? Asher Angel has a pitch for Sean (Angel) and Flora’s (Paris Berelc) next chapter after Kissing Is the Easy Part. (So does his costar, who suggested that Dating is the Hard Part comes first.)
On a more serious note, Tubi released its latest YA rom-com on February 13, but the streamer hasn’t yet announced a follow-up. Kissing Is the Easy Part has an open ending. Before the movie flashes forward, Flora ends her relationship with Sean, having learned of his deal with her scientist parents. (He agreed to date Flora and be a good influence on her study habits in exchange for a recommendation letter to his dream school.)
Their characters eventually reunite after having spent a year apart. Sean has just completed his freshman year at MIT, while Flora has just returned home after traveling. Before Sean and Flora kiss, the latter shares that she, too, will be in Boston for college in the fall. In a joint interview with Swooon, Angel and Berelc revealed what they want to see in Sean and Flora’s future.
“There’s lots of hope for us,” Angel said. “I would love to see us try and balance our relationship in college because I think there’s a lot of uphill adversity that we would have to tackle together. And I think a lot of people would like to see that, and I think we kind of set that up pretty well, I guess, with our ending.”

During their final conversation in the movie, Sean also reveals to Flora that MIT isn’t exactly what he expected. Asher wonders if “maybe [Sean] moves colleges and [he’s] going wherever Flora is going because [he’s] a follower.” He explained, “Obviously, I don’t want to lose her, so I would love to see maybe something in college or in adulthood. [That] would be kind of cool.”
On Berelc’s part, she wants to see Flora write a book, script, or poem. (It prompted Angel to point out that his costar has some poetry skills herself.) “I would love to see her explore that side because she says, ‘I’m going to be a writer,’ and I think that would be cool to see what she would actually do with that,” Berelc elaborated, adding that Flora could write a book about her and Sean’s experience.
The actors are “manifesting” that they get to work together again on a sequel. Angel learned a lot from his costar, whom he commended for her dedication. “She always just showed up and was always prepared. She knew everyone else’s lines, you name it. She was always there, and she was always a safe place on set, which was nice for me, too. It’s not every day you kind of walk onto a film project or a film set where you have such a close camaraderie with your costar.”
The duo, who are also longtime friends, have always wanted to be in a high school rom-com like Kissing Is the Easy Part. “That’s been our dream,” Angel said. “Those are the movies that we grew up on, so getting to do that with her was just super special and definitely learned a lot from her, and especially her work ethic. She’s a superstar.”
