Peter Bergman Makes Rare Comments About ‘All My Children’ Onscreen Love Taylor Miller

Peter Bergman has played the legendary Jack Abbott on The Young and the Restless for over 30 years, but he was Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children before that. Bergman rose to fame in the soap world as one-half of AMC’s earliest supercouples: Cliff Warner and Nina Cortlandt (Taylor Miller).
During his interview with Soapy podcast hosts Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, Bergman looked back at his early soap days on All My Children and dealing with supercouple stardom for the first time. He also opened up about his relationship with Miller today.
“That was my first experience as a supercouple,” Bergman said. “And that, of course, was the years of the crest of the daytime wave. We didn’t know it at the time that daytime would never be bigger than that. It was just completely crazy, and Taylor and I weathered that together and still have a lifelong friendship.”
Bergman was on All My Children from 1979 to 1989. When Rikaart asked if the reason he left the soap was that Miller wanted to pursue other opportunities, Bergman replied, “It was a confluence of things that happened at exactly the right or wrong time. The wrong time, as I was not ready to go. These were my family at the time. I had really made some wonderful friendships there, and the absolute right timing because it landed me on The Young and the Restless.”
Since he started on Y&R, Bergman’s Jack has had a number of grand romances with Diane (Susan Walters), Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and more. The actor admitted that one of his “favorite things to play as an actor is falling in love… Most people get to do this once, maybe twice in their lifetime, and I’ve done it a bunch of times.”
He did note that he has to be “careful about” the way he talks about falling in love onscreen because he has a wife that he loves “very much.” The Y&R star has been happily married to Mariellen Bergman since 1985.
