Rhage, get ready to meet your Mary. Audrey Hare will play Mary in the highly anticipated second season of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Swooon can exclusively reveal.
Hare will star alongside Alexander Cubis as The Black Dagger Brotherhood explores Rhage and Mary’s love story. Season 2 of the hit Passionflix vampire drama will follow the events of Lover Eternal, the second book in J.R. Ward’s bestselling book series.
“We know how protective fans are of Mary, and they should be. What struck me immediately was how naturally Audrey captured Mary’s compassion, intelligence, and strength. We are beyond excited for the audience to meet her,” founder and CEO of Passionflix, Tosca Musk, said in a statement. Musk also directs The Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
Hare also has the full support of the author who created the beloved character. “The instant I saw Audrey, I knew she was the Mary who has been inside my head for all these years,” Ward said. “We are so fortunate to have her joining our incredible cast, and I know she’s going to be the heart of Season 2!”
Production on The Black Dagger Brotherhood Season 2 is set to begin this March. Passionflix hasn’t announced a premiere date yet, but the second season will debut later this year.
Without giving away too much of Rhage and Mary’s story, Rhage is a total flirt and lives with a curse that transforms him into a dragon-like creature known as The Beast, which fans got a sneak peek of in Season 1. In Lover Eternal, the vampire meets Mary, who winds up a target of the lessers and needs the Black Dagger Brotherhood for protection. And from there, the rest is romance history.
The role of Mary will mark Hare’s first series regular role in a television series. The actress guest-starred in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2024.
The first season of The Black Dagger Brotherhood centered around Wrath (Robert Maaser) and Beth’s (Olivia Applegate) romance. Applegate previously told Swooon that the goal for The Black Dagger Brotherhood is to be the “vampire Bridgerton,” with each season following a book in Ward’s long-running series. There are 23 books (and counting) in The Black Dagger Brotherhood book series, the latest being Lover Forbidden.
