Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), your husband is coming. Upon the release of Bridgerton Season 4, showrunner Jess Brownell told Swooon, “I think we are interested in honoring the love interest from Eloise’s book [To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn]… She’s ending up with the love interest from her book.”
Though some fans have called for Eloise’s show arc to stray from the source material, it looks like the Netflix series won’t be going that route. (Philoise fans can rest easy.) Even if you aren’t familiar with the book, “Sir Phillip” may ring a bell. Though it’s been some time since he appeared, Eloise’s future love interest has already been introduced on screen.
Given all of the Eloise news lately, Swooon thought it was about time we refreshed ourselves on Chris Fulton, who brought Phillip to life in the first two seasons of Bridgerton. Find out about his character, Outlander history, and more below.
Who is Sir Phillip Crane in Bridgerton?
Phillip enters the Bridgerton world in Season 1, looking for Marina (Ruby Barker). The distant Featherington cousin is pregnant with his late brother’s twins. He died in battle, so the dutiful Phillip offers to marry her in his honor. Thinking she’s no longer with child, Marina rejects him at first, but she accepts when she finds out she was mistaken.
Season 2 gives a little more insight into Phillip’s character. When Colin (Luke Newton) visits the Crane estate to see his former flame Marina, Phillip animatedly asks about the plants he’d seen on his travels. Marina urges him to change the topic, prompting Phillip to admit he gets carried away by his interests.
It’s the first hint that their union is an unhappy one. Marina tells Colin that not everyone gets a “fairy tale” ending. Marina is content with her kids, and though they aren’t in love, she thinks Phillip is a good father.

Who is Chris Fulton?
Fulton, 37, hails from Scotland. Not much is known about his early life, but he grew up in Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, where his parents run the King’s Arms Hotel. He went on to train at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, earning a degree in acting in 2012.
What has Chris Fulton been in before?
Fulton landed his first screen role in 2015, in the British soap Doctors. That same year, he appeared in the BBC drama Stonemouth. He’s steadily been working in TV and film since then, making his feature film debut in 2018’s Outlaw King. His TV credits include Clique, Succession, The Witcher, and The Lazarus Project.
Who does Chris Fulton play in Outlander?
Fulton’s most recent role was in yet another period drama: Outlander. His character, Rob Cameron, appears in Season 7 of the Starz show. He becomes the colleague of Claire’s daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), when she joins the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board. He’s unhappy to be working underneath Brianna, and he reveals his villainous side quickly.

When he finds out about Brianna’s time-traveling secret and gets intel that there’s Jacobite gold in the past, Rob kidnaps Brianna’s son. Long story short, his plans are thwarted in the end. Needless to say, Rob is a far cry from Sir Phillip in Bridgerton.
Will Chris Fulton return for Bridgerton Season 5?
Despite Brownell’s comments about Eloise’s endgame, Fulton hasn’t yet been confirmed for any future Bridgerton seasons. In fact, the show hasn’t even revealed which season Eloise will be the lead of, so we don’t know when Fulton would potentially return, either.
However, Brownell said that the leads would be announced around the time Season 5 starts production, which she assured us would be “soon.”
