So who is Sarah J. Maas’ husband? How did they meet? Did he inspire any of her fae love interests? We’re breaking down all that and more below!

Who is Sarah J. Maas’ husband?

Sarah J. Maas is married to Josh Wasserman, a.k.a. Papa Maas, a co-owner of Wasserman Development Group. According to his now-deactivated LinkedIn profile, he joined Wasserman Development Group in 2015, but it is unclear whether he is still with the company. Currently, his fairly inactive Instagram sports the bio, “Home cooking, travel, & stuff 🥩🌏🍩.” The two live in Pennsylvania today. Maas has shared that they previously lived in Los Angeles.

How did Sarah J. Maas and her husband meet?

Seeing as Maas first penned Throne of Glass, then a Cinderella adaptation titled Queen of Glass, when she was 16, she’s actually known Aelin Ashryver Galathynius longer than she’s known her husband. Maas met Wasserman on her first day of freshman year at Hamilton College. Maas revealed during an interview with Jenna Bush Hager in 2024 that Wasserman was actually a junior resident assistant whom she met while moving into her dorm. The duo tied the knot two years after Maas graduated, getting married on May 30, 2010.

Is Rhysand based on Sarah J. Maas’ husband?

For years, readers have theorized that Maas based Feyre’s A Court of Thorns and Roses love interest, Rhysand, on her husband, Josh. While Maas has not confirmed the theory, she has explained that the love she receives from Josh inspires a lot of the romance in her books.

Maas told Hager, “I am lucky enough to have a partner that I’ve literally grown up with. I’ve been with him for over half of my life now. He was my first boyfriend, my first anything. This sounds very cheesy to say — but I think I can write about true love because I get to live that every day, and have someone that supports me and cheers for me, and is just rooting for me, and isn’t threatened in any way by my success.”

Does Sarah J. Maas have kids?

Yes, Maas and her husband have two kids: Taran (7) and Sloane (4). On Call Her Daddy, Maas revealed that Feyre’s difficult pregnancy narrative in A Court of Silver Flames was based on her own experience. She explained, “I did not have easy pregnancies and births, and so Feyre and all of that just was my own way of processing my s**t.”

When her son was born, Maas posted, “One week into motherhood and I didn’t think it was possible to love somebody as much as I adore this little man.” She later praised her husband, writing, “Watching you be so loving, nurturing, and brilliant with Taran brings me more joy than I know how to express. I’m so thankful that I get to share this journey with you, and that our son has such an incredible dad to look up to.”

In 2022, Maas revealed that she had secretly given birth to her second child, posting, “My heart is full to bursting today, knowing that [House of Sky and Breath] is finally in your hands—and being able to announce the birth of my beautiful, sweet daughter, Sloane, born 2/8/22 (though her original due date was TODAY!). Keeping my pregnancy on the DL this time was a choice I’m sure I’ll talk more about in the future, but for now I’m just so thrilled to be able to share the arrival of this lovely girl with all of you.”
