Are Rose Byrne & Bobby Cannavale Married? All About Their Love Story
Unlike the Golden Globes earlier this year, Rose Byrne was joined by her longtime love, Bobby Cannavale, at the 98th Academy Awards. She won big at the first ceremony, taking home the trophy for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. During her acceptance speech, Byrne explained the hilarious reason for Cannavale’s absence: “My husband, Bobby… he couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”
It seems that the bearded dragon has been acquired, since Cannavale supported his love at the last event of the awards season. The 2026 Oscars red carpet wasn’t their first, of course — Byrne and Cannavale have been professional collaborators as well as romantic partners for years. The power couple has yet to officially marry, even though they’ve referred to themselves as husband and wife for years. “I hate all the other words! It’s just easier to say ‘husband and wife,’” Cannavale told Vulture in 2020. “‘Boyfriend and girlfriend’ feels so young. ‘Partner’ feels so sterile.”
“I’m more married to him than anybody I’ve ever been with my whole life,” Byrne explained to People in 2023. The Oscar nominee and Cannavale will “absolutely” tie the knot, she added, but “scheduling” has made landing on a date tricky. “Definitely something that we will do,” she confirmed. “We’ll get around to it.”

How did Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale meet?
The pair first met in the fall of 2012, according to a Vanity Fair profile published seven years later. Mutual friends introduced them around the same time that Byrne was wrapping up her five-season-long legal drama Damages. Byrne’s costar, Glenn Close, remarked to the outlet that “the chemistry between them, it’s just so remarkable.”
Byrne and Cannavale made their red carpet debut together in June 2013 at the CFDA Fashion Awards.

Four years after meeting, the couple welcomed son Rocco in February 2016. Their second son, Rafael (nicknamed “Rafa”) came along in November 2017. Cannavale was no stranger to fatherhood by the time he grew his family with Byrne. He shares an adult son, Jake, with ex-wife Jenny Lumet.
“[Rocco] is a terrific big brother,” Cannavale told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. “He’s wonderful with him, and really gentle with him, and my oldest is great with both of them. We couldn’t ask for anything more.”
A year later, Byrne said it was “completely bonkers” raising two young boys. “You’re always like, ‘Don’t hit him! Put down that thing! It’s on fire! What’s happening?’ It’s completely chaotic and I’m not by any means a completely in-control parent,” she told MiNDFOOD. “I definitely am trying to put out fires all the time.”
Cannavale and Byrne try to keep their family together and close by when they’re working. “Our life is really just … aside from raising the kids, it’s just scheduling, everything is scheduling,” Cannavale said during a May 2024 appearance on Today. “And so we try our best to really stay together, we always say, ‘We’ve got to keep the band together,’ so we take the kids with us wherever we go and we try to work here as much as we can.”
