It’s time to lock in, romantic period drama enthusiasts. The Forsytes is PBS Masterpiece’s latest contribution to the genre, and it may offer some of the network’s most swoonworthy love stories to date. Inspired by John Galsworthy’s Forsyte Saga, this new take on the fictional stockbroking family isn’t like others we’ve seen before, taking place before the events of the book. It’s also far less buttoned-up, promising to appeal to fans of Bridgerton, which means it has some Victorian era hunks to obsess over.
The Forsytes, which comes from the creators of Poldark, offers not just one romantic lead, but two. Opposite Danny Griffin‘s Jolyon Forsyte Jr. — who could very well give Benedict Bridgerton a run for his money — is Joshua Orpin‘s Soames Forsyte. Who does Joshua Orpin play in The Forsytes?
Soames is the son of James and Emily Forsyte, and the grandson of Old Jolyon, who established the family fortune. He’s also the younger cousin to Jolyon Jr. Soames, however, is the central character in Galsworthy’s Forsyte Saga, known as “The Man of Property.” He’s a ruthless, cold solicitor who finds himself drawn to Irene (Millie Gibson). If you’ve read or watched other adaptations, you already have an idea of how their relationship turns out, though we’ll have to wait and see if the prequel takes a different approach.

What has Joshua Orpin been in before?
The 31-year-old actor, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, is best known for playing Connor Kent, aka Superboy, in DC’s Titans. His character first appeared in Season 2 and remained on the show until its fourth and final season, which ran in 2022.
“From the moment I was cast and in my first season of filming there were a lot of parallels and I felt that we were kindred spirits, in a way, Conner and myself,” Orpin told Multiverse of Color. “As much as it was his story of being born into a world that he was completely unfamiliar with and meeting all these people and learning about himself, I, too, was in a new country for the first time. Titans was my first big TV role and I was blown away by everything that was going on and trying to adjust. And as he developed, so, too, I developed and became used to things.”
Post-Titans, he told the outlet that we wanted to search for roles completely different to Superboy, which he succeed in. He went on to act in the Australian soap opera Home and Away (2024) and the I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) reboot. And The Forsytes, of course.
Who is Joshua Orpin dating?
Orpin’s real-life love is Asha Rosie Khan, whom he’s been with since 2014. He celebrated their 10-year anniversary on Instagram. “Back in 2014 I signed a 6 month contract with @sally_staddon to be @asharosie_khan’s full time carer,” he wrote. “This professional commitment quickly blossomed into a reluctant friendship, and eventually something much more than that… Permanent housemates. 10 long years (and 19 contract renewals) later we have never been happier!”
