Who is Rory McIlroy’s wife?
McIlroy is married to Erica Stoll. Golf is the reason why McIlroy and Stoll met. They first crossed paths at the 2012 Ryder Cup. Stoll had been working as a PGA transport official, and she helped McIlroy get a police escort to the course when he overslept.
“Erica, that week was always the one that was checking us in and out. She was there at transportation, so she was always in the car park over there. But yeah, it’s still cool to look around and think about that week, and obviously everything that’s happened since then. It’s pretty cool,” he told the Golf Channel.

McIlroy and Stoll began dating in late 2014, and the golfer opened up about his new relationship the following year. “I am very happy in my love life,” he told The Sunday Times. “We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach … The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great.”
The couple got engaged in December 2015 during a trip to Paris. They got married in April 2017 at Ashford Castle in Ireland.
What happened to Rory McIlroy’s wife at the Ryder Cup?
At the Ryder Cup in September 2025, McIlroy and Stoll were heckled by the rowdy crowd. Team USA attendees chanted, “F**k you, Rory,” and Stoll had a beer thrown at her.
“[Family] should be off limits, but obviously it wasn’t this week,” McIlroy later told reporters. “Erica is fine. She is a very, very strong woman, and she handled everything this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has.”
Did Rory McIlroy file for divorce?
Yes, the golfer filed for divorce on May 13, 2024. Just a month later, McIlroy called off the divorce. “There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate,” he told The Guardian. “Responding to each rumor is a fool’s game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
In 2025, McIlroy addressed his brief split from Stoll in the third season of Full Swing. “There’s parts of my life that I like to keep as private as possible,” he said. “Unfortunately, in this line of work, that isn’t always possible.” He called the situation a “wake-up call.”

Yes, McIlroy and Stoll welcomed their daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, in 2020. Little Poppy was in Augusta cheering on her dad when he won the Masters for the first time.

“I think it was the first time that she sort of realized what I did, which was really cool [and] also a little scary at the same time,” the golfer said at a press conference. “It’s amazing that I can share these things with her and with Erica.”
Who is Rory McIlroy’s ex-girlfriend?
Before he started dating Stoll, McIlroy was in a relationship with tennis pro Caroline Wozniacki. They began dating in 2011 and got engaged in 2013. The golfer called off their engagement in 2014 after wedding invitations had already been sent out.
“The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had,” he said in his original statement.
Just a few hours after the announcement, McIlroy spoke about the breakup ahead of the BMW PGA Championship. “It is quite a difficult time for Caroline and myself, and the statement really said it all this morning,” McIlroy said. “It was mutual, and we both thought it was the best for us, the best for both of us. Time to move on, and I’ve said all that I need to say.”
