Where is Colin Strickland now?

Strickland stepped away from professional gravel cycling following Wilson’s murder. “Every aspect of it was just horrific and wasteful,” he told Cycling News in 2025. “I immediately had no interest in cycling. Period. Everything was burning, like my whole world was on fire. There would have been no bike racing under any circumstances. This would be completely toxic to me, and I couldn’t do that.”

He added, “The bomb went off in my world, and I’m still recovering from the shell shock of just trying to make sense of it all. I have not made sense of it yet, and I’m not sure I ever will. It brings me so much heartbreak.”

Since 2021, Strickland has moved “into a whole different space.” He’s now working in automotive restoration for Spartan trailers and collectible vehicles. In 2025, he was also restoring a 1915 house and helped his mother purchase a house near him in central Texas.

Strickland was the last person to see Wilson alive before she was killed by Armstrong in an act of jealousy on the night of May 11, 2022. At the time of her murder, Wilson and Strickland were not in a relationship. They casually dated when she had spent a week in Austin previously, but Wilson was always unsure of where she stood with him.

Strickland was in an on-again, off-again relationship with Armstrong, who was still living with him when she killed Wilson. They had broken up before, and she had moved into another bedroom in his home. Strickland had previously purchased (but never used) two guns, and Armstrong used one of them to kill Wilson.

When Armstrong went on trial for the murder of Wilson, Strickland spent hours testifying about his relationships with both women. He did not participate in the Netflix documentary.

What happened to Kaitlin Armstrong?

Armstrong was brought in for questioning early on but then released. Police eventually put out a warrant for her arrest, but she had used her sister’s passport to fly to Costa Rica. She altered her appearance via plastic surgery, including a nose job and brow lift, and used fake identities to evade police. After 43 days on the run, she was apprehended. Using a fake Facebook ad looking for a yoga instructor, U.S. Marshals were able to track her down.

She pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge. Weeks before her trial, she tried and failed to escape from jail. In January 2024, Armstrong was convicted of murder and sentenced to 90 years in prison. She is currently incarcerated at a Gatesville, Texas, prison and will be eligible for parole in 2052.
