Is CeeLo Green Married? All About ‘The Voice’ Mentor’s Love Life & Family
CeeLo Green is back for Season 29 of The Voice! One of the show’s original coaches has returned as a mentor for John Legend and Adam Levine‘s teams in the Knockout Round. He’s also serving as judge for the new in-season All-Star Competition.
Offscreen, Green has been in a long-term relationship with Shani James for more than 10 years. He was also previously married.

Is CeeLo Green married?
No, Green is not married. He and James got engaged in 2014, but they have never tied the knot. However, she refers to him as her husband, telling The Real in 2020, “It’s common law.”
As for when they plan to wed, James said, “I don’t know. He’s going to have to surprise me.” Green then added, “When we found each other, we found friendship. I found one of the best friends I’ve ever had in this person. We weren’t in a rush. We were just cruising and living and loving on each other.”
At the time, Green admitted there were “a couple different times” where he wanted to whisk James away to marry her, but he said, “I’m a little fearful because I want to be the best husband and best person I can possibly be. I know time is ticking. But she’s been really, really, really patient.”
James added, “One thing that’s really special about our bond is that we’ve made it our tradition to be untraditional. Time is on our side. We don’t have anything to rush for. What most people have to get married to accomplish, that’s what we took the time to date each other for, and as my grandmother would say, court each other. Sometimes people get married right away, sometimes people take their time, and we’re just taking our time.”
That same year, Green and James appeared on Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition, where they sought to work out some of their relationship problems, including his hesitation about walking down the aisle.
Who is Shani James?
James is a stylist who created the brands The Jemini Jogger and Knowstylegia. She told SD Voyager that Green was the one who encouraged her to “set out on my journey as a vintage collector, curator, and most of all appreciator.” Through Knowstylegia, she curates outfits for clients from her own vintage collection.
James is also the founder of Lady Killers Gun Club, a company that teaches women how to properly handle guns. Per the company’s website, James’ “passion for shooting quickly developed into a need to pass on her knowledge and techniques to other women.”
Who is CeeLo Green’s ex-wife?
Green was previously married to Christina Johnson from 2000 to 2005. They maintained an amicable relationship after their split, and even briefly dated post-divorce, Johnson revealed on Atlanta Exes in 2014.
Johnson previously said on the Smitty & Dee podcast that she and Green never fell out of love, but past traumas eventually took a toll on their relationship. “We were trauma bonding,” Johnson explained, referring to the domestic violence in her childhood and the bullying in Green’s childhood.
At the time of the 2023 interview, Johnson admitted that she and Green didn’t see each other much anymore, but would always have an ongoing friendship.
Johnson is now a life coach and author. She is also one of the founders/creators of Design My Investment, a company that offers interior design tips to “help experts and enthusiasts transform spaces like a pro.”
Does CeeLo Green have kids?
Yes, Green shares a son, Kingston, who goes by Layke, with Johnson. He was born in 2000.
