Exclusive Interview
How Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt’s Daughter Helped Design the New HGTV Smart Home
What To Know
- Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt exclusively shared how their daughter, Jade, helped design the HGTV Smart Home 2026.
- Mika also teased whether Jade plans to follow in her design footsteps one day.
- Jade will be featured on HGTV’s Smart Home 2026 special, which airs later this month.
Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt turned the HGTV Smart Home 2026 into a family affair.
The 100 Day Dream Home stars led the renovation of this year’s Smart Home, located in Orlando, Florida. While the couple included everything from a closet shoe carousel to an interactive game room, they asked a special person to help complete the teen-inspired guest bedroom.
“I think the smartest thing we did was have our daughter, Jade, help design the kids’ room, the teenage room,” Brian told Swooon. “So, she was a part of the episode. She had a little project she worked on. And then, we actually revealed the house to her at the end, which I think was unique.”
Mika, for her part, said it was “cool” to have Jade, who turned 17 in February, be involved in one of her and Brian’s renovation projects. “Nobody knows how to design a teenage space more than a teenager,” she stated. “And I think it was really cool how she incorporated some of her personal flair, and then she got to see the whole room come together. So, it’s a special moment. It’s something we’ll look back on and always kind of have as part of our family memories.”
The guest bedroom features white-and-pink-checkered walls, decorated with shelves made from skateboards. The rest of the room follows the same neutral, light-pink color scheme, from the curtains to the bedding to the rug.

Brian and Mika met in high school, but later went their separate ways. Mika welcomed Jade in 2009 with a previous partner before reconnecting with Brian. The couple tied the knot in 2015 and went on to launch their flagship HGTV series, 100 Day Dream Home, in 2020.
While Jade shares Mika’s eye for design, the TV personality told Swooon that her daughter may put her talents to use outside of the world of home renovation. “I think her design footsteps won’t be so much houses,” Mika explained. “I think it’s going to be more like fashion, like what we wear. But it’s definitely going to be a creative career, for sure.
HGTV viewers will soon see Jade alongside her parents in the one-hour Smart Home 2026 special, airing on Friday, April 24. Brian and Mika will give both fans and Jade a tour of the 3,000-square-foot property, which features three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Other spaces include a cozy kitchen, a blue-walled lounge, and an outdoor pool and putting green.
Fans can enter to win the home and a $100,000 prize via HGTV and Food Network‘s websites starting on Tuesday, April 21, at 9 a.m. ET. Entries close on Friday, June 19, at 5 p.m. ET.

In addition to the HGTV Smart Home 2026, Brian and Mika are currently helping Jade with another project off the small screen. “I’m teaching Jade how to drive,” Brian revealed. “She’s about to get her license. So, we’ve got a lot of stuff going on when the cameras aren’t rolling, but we look forward to the cameras rolling again very soon.”
