Aubrey Plaza is pregnant. The Agatha All Along star’s rep confirmed the news on April 7 after the outlet reported that Plaza is expecting her first child with boyfriend Christopher Abbott.
“It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” a source told People. “They feel very blessed.” In January 2025, Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, died, and it was later revealed that they’d been separated for four months at the time.

How long have Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott been together?
The exact timeline of Plaza and Abbott’s relationship is unclear, but an eyewitness first spotted them together at The Chatham Berry Farm in upstate New York in June 2025, per DeuxMoi. The onlooker said that the two looked like “more than friends” and noted that Plaza “was rubbing his back, and they were sitting very close to each other at a picnic table.”
Prior to that, Plaza and Abbott costarred in the film Black Bear, which was released in 2020. They then teamed up for an off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which ran from October 2023 to January 2024.
In November 2025, the couple attended a Knicks game together, and they were also spotted at Paris Fashion Week in February 2026.
Who is Christopher Abbott?
Abbott is an actor who’s best known for his role as Charlie, Marnie’s (Allison Williams) love interest in the early seasons of Girls. His acting career began in the theater, which led to a role alongside Elizabeth Olsen in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene.
After starring in some off-Broadway productions, Abbott made his Broadway debut in 2011, starring alongside Ben Stiller and Edie Falco in The House of Blue Leaves.
Some of his film roles include Black Bear, The Forgiven, Poor Things, and The Testament of Ann Lee. He’s also made television appearances on Enlightened, The Sinner, Catch-22, and The Crowded Room.
Currently, Abbott is starring as Biff in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman.
What happened to Aubrey Plaza’s ex-husband?
Baena died by suicide in January 2025. Two months later, the Los Angeles Medical Examiner confirmed, “He was experiencing recent marital difficulties and was separated from his wife since September 2024.”

Per People, the medical examiner’s report revealed that Plaza “call[ed] a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband” one month after the September 2024 separation because Baena made a remark that “concerned” her. The director began attending therapy after the welfare check. He texted Plaza on the morning of his death and was later found at his residence by a dog walker.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” a rep for Plaza said. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Plaza and Baena met in 2011 “over a game of Balderdash,” per a GQ profile. They secretly got married in 2020 after nearly a decade of dating. “I relate to being in a relationship that has peaks and valleys, and going through a rough patch and comparing yourself to another couple that seems perfect,” Plaza admitted in the GQ interview.

Plaza previously dated Michael Cera, whom she met on the set of the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. They were together for about a year and a half before breaking up.
