On July 1, 2026, Elle Woods is returning to our screens in the Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, starring newcomer Lexi Minetree as the title character, originated by Reese Witherspoon in the 2001 movie. Taking viewers back to Elle’s high school days, the series is set to follow Elle Woods before she enrolled in Harvard Law School, became the runner-up Miss Hawaiian Tropic, or even joined Delta Nu.
While we know where the prequel lands in Elle’s life, fans have begun to question whether her first boyfriend and almost-fiancé in the movie, Warner (Matthew Davis), will make an appearance in the series. When did Elle meet Warner?
It’s clear from Legally Blonde that Elle and Warner met in college, as he is consistently referred to as her college sweetheart. During their senior year of undergrad, Elle is convinced that Warner is proposing, but instead, he breaks up with her, explaining that he needs to marry someone more “serious” if he wants to become a senator.
To quote Legally Blonde: The Musical, “Less of a Marilyn, more of a Jackie.” While a clear timeframe is not given, they never mention Elle and Warner meeting before college.
Will Warner be in the Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle?
Right now, there has not been official confirmation that Warner won’t be in Elle, but we’d wager to guess that he won’t be making an appearance. When comparing their backgrounds during their breakup, Elle reveals that she grew up in Bel Air, and does not indicate that Warner did as well. Further, the main cast for Elle has been announced, and Warner is nowhere to be seen. While he could make a cameo appearance, especially if the series continues for years to come, it’s unlikely there would be a reason for Warner to enter Elle’s life right now.

Who is the love interest in Elle?
As of May 2026, the plot of Elle has been kept mostly under wraps. That said, we do know that Jacob Moskovitz has been cast as Miles, the school’s star athlete, who is charmed by Elle. At the same time, Zac Looker has been cast as Dustin, Elle’s classmate and sparring partner, who cares about social justice and isn’t afraid to challenge authority. While Miles is clearly set up as a potential love interest, we’d assume both guys will factor into Elle’s love life in some way. After all, Hello Sunshine President Lauren Neustadter told Swooon that she loves “a good romance and a great love triangle,” and teased, “We might have some of that in [Elle].”
During that same interview with Swooon, Looker revealed that Dustin and Elle are “kind of like oil and water in a way.” She added, “They’re very different from each other, but they kind of have a throughline of values that connects them.” At the same time, Moskovitz furthered his known character description, letting us know Miles is “very charmed by [Elle]. VERY charmed by her.”
