What To Know

Rebecca and Tom. Olivia and Alexander… or Clayton. It’s clear that some romances are brewing in Hope Valley: 1874. However, one leading lady has yet to get a taste of that signature Hallmark romance: Hattie.
During Swooon‘s visit to the Hope Valley: 1874 set (which doubles as the set for When Calls the Heart), we sat down with Jill Hennessy, who revealed her hopes for a potential Season 2 romance for her character, the settlement’s Trading Post owner Hattie Quinn.
When asked if there is anything Hennessy could tease about Hattie’s love life going forward, she told us, “I know they do have certain things planned.” That said, she confessed, “I, too, would like to know about Hattie’s love life, aside from all the backstories I’ve built up.”
This season, viewers have adored Hattie’s friendship with Rebecca (Bethany Joy Lenz), whom she connected with in the early episodes. As soon as the single mothers both revealed that they had lost their husbands, they formed a tight bond that will clearly last for years to come. But while Rebecca appears to have a blossoming connection with Tom (Benjamin Ayres), Hattie is still flying solo.

“I’ve heard little hints, which I’m kind of excited about,” Hennessy said about Hattie’s love life. During our conversation, which occurred before Season 1 premiered, Hennessy revealed she was referring to “somebody that you will see in the show.” She continued, “I can’t really give anything away, because it’s going to be fleshed out in Season 2, but I’m rather excited about it—somebody I like a lot, so we shall see. But yeah, there’s something in the works, something brewing.”
We caught up with Hennessy towards the end of filming, so she was able to share that, to her knowledge, there was “one hint in the entire season” as to who her love interest could be.
Having watched the Season 1 finale, our best guess is that a certain punch-grabbing prospector could be the guy. While a Hattie Quinn and Archie Doyle (Ryan Robbins) romance is just speculation on our end right now, you can’t blame us for dreaming!
