What To Know

  • Eve Hewson, star of Disclosure Day, is the daughter of a lead singer.
  • Eve has three siblings, one of whom is the frontman of the band Inhaler.

Since her acting career started with 2011’s This Must Be the Place, Eve Hewson has become accustomed to the spotlight. But Steven Spielberg‘s Disclosure Day is her biggest role to date, so there’s surely going to be an uptick in interest in her life off-screen.

The 34-year-old actress has a famous dad — and brother, for that matter — so she’s been acquainted with the public’s attention since her childhood. Get the full rundown on the Bad Sisters star’s family, including her three siblings.

Who is Eve Hewson’s dad?

Hewson grew up seeing her dad, Bono, work all day. The lead singer of U2, whose real name is Paul David Hewson, has been supportive of his daughter’s career, per a 2024 Byrdie interview.

She recalled her childhood with her dad. “Every day, from the moment he woke up at five o’clock in the morning, he would get up, write for two hours, and then read, and then start his phone calls,” the actress said. “And he did not stop working until he fell asleep at 10 o’clock at night. I’ve seen him do that for my entire life. Of course, when I was younger, he would come home a lot later because they used to record late into the night.”

Her parents got her a tutor during her childhood, who turned out to be then-aspiring English filmmaker Erica Dunton. Visiting one of Dunton’s sets, Hewson realized acting was her passion. Dunton wrote a part for 15-year-old Hewson in her movie 27 Club.

“[My parents] were like, ‘Oh my god, this is what she wants to do,'” Hewson recalled. “They just didn’t want me to move to Hollywood. They didn’t want me to get caught up in the movie business. I mean, look at the music industry, at the movie industry — it is stark. There’s a lot of bad s**t out there. They were concerned for their 15-year-old child that, all of a sudden, came home and was like: I want to be an actress. They were like, ‘Oh god, no. Please be an architect.'”

Hewson went on to call Bono a stage dad. “He can’t help it. It’s how he’s led a band for 46 years or however long. He’s just constantly coming up with new ideas and things, and he really wants everybody to reach their potential.”

Who is Eve Hewson’s mom?

Hewson’s mom is Irish activist Ali Hewson, who met Bono at school when she was 12 years old. They got married 10 years later in 1982.

The actress told Byrdie that her mom is just as supportive as her dad. “She’s proud of me, but she’s not like, ‘Oh my god, you’re a star! Honey, you’re a star!’” she said, quoting Kris Jenner. “She’s definitely not all, ‘You’re doing amazing, sweetie!’ She always says: You just have to have a sense of humor about everything. She was like, no matter what, you have to laugh it off. She has a very grounded approach to life.”

She said her mom is hard to impress, though. “My dad has been trying to do that forever,” she joked.

Who are Eve Hewson’s siblings?

Bono and Ali share four kids. The former recalled his and Ali’s decision to have kids in his memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.

“I was not sure I could be so ambidextrous as to be band leader and father. I was frightened of such responsibilities and of blowing them,” Bono wrote. “As Ali and I walked back from Quincy [Jones]’ one night, an invisible switch got flicked. We were talking about kids and how the conventional life is not the only route to parenting, how people who live in their imagination can also live in the real world of parent-teacher meetings, school drops, and being there for birthdays. A month later and Ali was pregnant.”

Jordan was born in May 1989. She grew up in Ireland before going to school at Columbia University, graduating with an undergraduate political science and then a master’s degree in creative writing.

In 2016, she founded social activism company Speakable. That same year, she told Fortune, “My dad is a good resource, but I try to keep him away from the company as much as possible. Obviously, I grew up with a lot of opportunity and connections, but ultimately, that will only get you in the door once with a person.”

Jordan was on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list when her company developed an action button that can be embedded in articles, allowing people to donate, tweet, or sign a petition.

Elijah, who was born in August 1999, is following in his dad’s footsteps. He leads the Irish rock band Inhaler, which was formed with his classmates when he was in school. The band’s first album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, came out in 2021.

“It’s funny, you always want to do the opposite of what your parents do. I don’t know why that hasn’t applied to me,” he told the Chicago Sun-Times.

John Hewson

The youngest Hewson, John, was born in May 2001. Unlike his siblings, he keeps a low profile, so much is known about him.
