After being one of the first players eliminated on The Challenge Season 40 and taking off Season 41, Nurys Mateo is back on The Challenge: Cutthroat this year. The last time we saw her play, in 2024, she was in a relationship with fellow Season 40 contestant Horacio Gutiérrez.

No, Nurys and Horacio are no longer together. She confirmed the breakup during a Q&A in February 2026, although it’s believed that they actually ended things much earlier during summer 2025.
The relationship lasted for about two years and survived some time spent apart in 2024 when Horacio competed on an All-Star season of Exatlón Estados Unidos.

Many fans have speculated that the two split because Nurys was ready to take the next step in the relationship and Horacio was not on the same page, but this has not been confirmed.
Nurys slammed fan speculation in her breakup confirmation video. “You guys love to put your two cents into s**t you guys have no f**king idea about and you guys comment on it as if you guys know facts, it’s really crazy,” she said. She also read a comment from someone who said Horacio didn’t seem into the relationship and replied, “I just can’t help but laugh because it’s comments like those that prove to me that you guys don’t know s**t and you just comment to comment.”
How did Nurys Mateo and Horacio Gutiérrez meet?
Nurys and Horacio first met as contestants on Season 38 of The Challenge in 2022. They both returned for Season 39 the following year.
During the show, they developed a close friendship, which eventually developed into something more. Horacio asked Nurys to be his girlfriend in August 2023 after filming wrapped.
