Degrassi: The Next Generation first premiered in 2001 and introduced teens to a whole new group of high school students. While the cast was ever evolving throughout its 14-season run (it was renamed as Degrassi for Seasons 10 to 14), the characters from Season 1 will always be the OGs.

All of the OG teens were gone by the end of Season 9, but there was no shortage of storylines for all of them. The show featured a ton of different romances throughout its run, which makes it hard to remember which characters actually ended up together.

So, Swooon is here to provide a refresher on the OG characters’ endings on the show, and most importantly, how their romantic storylines wrapped up. Scroll down for a full breakdown of what the characters’ final relationships were before their departures, and make sure to let us know in the comments section who your favorite endgame couple is!

Emma and Spinner on Degrassi
CTV

Spinner & Emma

Anyone who watches the first episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation for the first time would NEVER be able to guess that Spinner (Shane Kippel) and Emma (Miriam McDonald) ended up together. He was the class clown and a “bad boy,” while she was the younger good girl.

It ended up being a totally random relationship. There was no buildup to these two getting together. The last four episodes of Season 9 were called Degrassi Takes Manhattan and featured Emma and Spinner both still in town. She got a job with him at The Dot, and they connected after it burned down.

During a trip to a casino, they got drunk and, before blacking out, tied the knot. Although they initially went to a divorce lawyer, they ended up realizing that they had feelings for each other and wanted to make it work. The season, as well as Emma and Spinner’s run on the show, ended with their family and friends gathering for an actual wedding party.

Jimmy

Jimmy Brooks (Drake) ended up with Trina (Terra Vnesa), a woman he met in physical therapy after getting shot and becoming paralyzed from the waist down.

He was dating Ashley (Melissa McIntyre) when he met Trina, but the relationship ended amid her jealousy of his new friendship. Since Trina was also paralyzed, she and Jimmy were able to relate on a deeper level.

After he took Trina to prom in Season 7, they went off to Amsterdam to have stem cell surgery. They returned in Season 8 for a guest stint and Jimmy proposed.

Ashley

Ashley (Melissa McIntyre) didn’t have a concrete romantic ending. She dated Jimmy and Craig (Jake Epstein) throughout the series, but did not end up with either of them.

Although Ashley and Craig were able to get to a good place in their friendship and even started touring together as musicians, they did not continue a romantic relationship at that point. In her final episode, she stayed in Europe after the tour, while he moved to Los Angeles.

Liberty on Degrassi
CTV

Liberty

Liberty (Sarah Elizabeth Barrable-Tishauer) was not in a romantic relationship at the end of her run on the show. She previously dated J.T. (Ryan Cooley) and got pregnant with his child, which they put up for adoption. When J.T. died in Season 6, he and Liberty were broken up. He was dating Mia (Nina Dobrev), but Liberty still had feelings for him. She came clean about her true feelings before he died, but he did not reciprocate them.

However, Liberty, who was holding J.T. when he died after being stabbed, later found out from Toby (Jake Goldsbie) that her ex actually was still in love with her before his untimely death.

J.T.

J.T. and Mia were together before he was stabbed to death, although it was later revealed that he really still had feelings for Liberty.

Manny and Jay on Degrassi
CTV

Manny

Manny’s (Cassie Steele) endgame was with former bad boy Jay (Mike Lobel). Their relationship started as a faux-mance so Manny could get back at her parents, but it eventually turned into the real deal.

Their relationship eventually ended when Jay returned to his bad boy ways, but they wound up getting back together. By the end of the show, they were still in a relationship.

Paige and Alex on Degrassi
CTV

Paige

Paige (Lauren Collins) wasn’t with anybody when her time on the show ended. She was in an on-and-off relationship with Alex (Deanna Casaluce) for a few seasons, but they did not end up together.

Ultimately, Alex was left behind as Paige pursued greater career plans, and they realized they weren’t meant to be.

Sean on Degrassi

Sean

Sean (Daniel Clark) did not end up with anybody on Degrassi: The Next Generation. He dated both Emma and Ellie (Stacey Farber) on the show but was not in a relationship during his final episode when he left for the military.
