While many believed that Forever would just be a limited series, centering around Justin and Keisha falling in love for the first time while navigating high school and their futures, Netflix didn’t want to say goodbye—and neither did we. Just a week after the first season dropped, the streamer greenlit a second season.
The Season 1 finale could have easily been a moving series finale, but now that’s not the case. So, what does this mean for Keisha and Justin? As we reflect on the first season, we have several questions that need to be answered in Season 2. No matter what, the second chapter of Justin and Keisha’s story is going to be riveting (and relatable) television.

1. Will Keisha & Justin get back together?
Are first loves ever really over? Justin and Keisha break up in the Season 1 finale as they prepare for the next chapters of their lives. They are on separate paths and come to the mature decision to end their relationship. Keisha is headed to Howard University, while Justin is staying back in Los Angeles to focus on music. First loves are hard to make a clean break from, and with so much love still there between Justin and Keisha, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they gave their relationship another shot at some point. Justin even says to Keisha, “Maybe we’ll be ready for each other in 10 years.”
Simone told Swooon that she believes Justin and Keisha will “reconnect” at some point. “I think a lot of first loves reconnect, even if it doesn’t last forever, they always reconnect,” she said.

2. Do Keisha & Justin keep in touch while she's at Howard?
Bouncing off of our previous point, there’s no way Justin and Keisha just go no-contact when she leaves for Howard. They may not be together, but they’re still friends. It would be interesting to see how Justin and Keisha navigate a “just friends” dynamic and how to be platonic.

3. Will Justin ultimately go to Northwestern?
Justin decide to take a gap year to focus on his dream of becoming a music producer. He tells his parents that he’s just deferring his enrollment. If the experience he’s getting in Los Angeles proves to be more fruitful than going to Northwestern, he could forego college completely or transfer to a college closer to Los Angeles.

4. How will COVID-19 impact Justin & Keisha?
When the first season of Forever ends, it’s 2019. We all know what happened in 2020: the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything changed as the world went on lockdown and social distancing became the norm. Most college kids were sent home and shifted to virtual courses. If the show decides to dive into 2020 (and not do a time jump), Keisha will likely have to return to Los Angeles. Could this impact her track scholarship? How will Justin and Keisha deal with lockdown and the isolation? This would be a fascinating exploration in Season 2.
Also, you know Eric’s restaurants would feel the impact. The Edwards family would undoubtedly be tested like never before if the show decides to explore everything that happens 2020.

5. Will Justin’s parents be as hard on Jaden?
Now that Justin has graduated from high school, will Dawn (Karen Pittman) and Eric (Wood Harris) put all their focus on Justin’s little brother, Jaden (Marvin Winans III)? Given how Justin handled the pressure from them, they could give Jaden an easier time. Jaden’s a little spitfire, so he’l likely be a little more difficult for Dawn and Eric to control.

6. Will Justin & Keisha start dating other people?
Unless they get back together right away, Justin and Keisha will start dating other people. Whether it’s just casual dating or one of them falls into a serious relationship remains to be seen. After such a meaningful first love, Justin and Keisha exploring new romances would be compelling storyline for both of them. Will they compare their new partners to what they had? Will unresolved feelings bubble up as they start dating new people? How will they react to seeing the other move on? There’s always that little pang of heartbreak when you see your first love happy with someone else.
