5 ‘Lucifer’ Couples, Ranked From Worst to Best

Lucifer and Chloe (left) and Maze and Eve (right) in 'Lucifer'
Netflix

On the surface, Lucifer is a supernatural police procedural, but it doesn’t take long to figure out that the series is a love story. As the original fallen angel (Tom Ellis) solves crimes with LAPD detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), the tension between them simmers for a painfully long time. Deckerstar is a will-they-won’t-they of epic proportions, but the six-season drama also makes sure to give its entire ensemble romances, some more memorable (and successful) than others. Even Lucifer and Chloe have to go through a few other relationships before they (spoiler alert) end up together.

Since Lucifer just turned 10 years old, Swooon is looking back on the most substantial romances of the series, like Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Eve (Inbar Lavi), Linda (Rachael Harris) and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), and Dan (Kevin Alejandro) and Charlotte (Tricia Helfer). We’ve ranked them from our least to most favorite, and we’ll go ahead and tell you right now: Our top pick isn’t Deckerstar. (We know, gasp!) Let us know if you agree with our order and takes in the comments section below!

Carol and Ella in 'Lucifer'
Netflix

5. Ella Lopez & Carol Corbett

Our favorite bubbly forensic scientist (Aimee Garcia) deserves a sweet relationship after falling for a literal serial killer in Season 5, and she gets one with Carol (Scott Porter). It’s all thanks to the matchmaking efforts of Dan, may he rest in peace. We don’t think he’d mind that Ella and Carol wind up meeting at his funeral.

Carol proves to be the good guy that Dan said he was, supporting Ella even when she has to keep all of the supernatural drama she knows about a secret. We’re only ranking them last on the list because they didn’t get nearly enough time to shine, with Carol only really getting involved in the sixth and final season. If the show gave them more time to establish a friendship first, they might’ve been ranked higher. Still, we’re glad Ella gets her happy ending.

4. Dan Espinoza & Charlotte Richards

Dan’s relationship with the Goddess-possessed Charlotte is weird, sure, but when Charlotte becomes herself again, the show course corrects. Setting aside the whole Goddess thing, Dan and Charlotte are sweet, especially because the former is working on becoming a better man at the time. Again, though, Dan and Charlotte simply don’t get enough time together. Charlotte tragically bites the dust before we can get invested in them, followed shortly by Dan. But we’re happy to know that they’re eating pudding together in Heaven in the end.

3. Amenadiel & Linda Martin

We’re still a little bitter that Amenadiel and Linda don’t wind up together, because if they had, we could easily move them up a few spots. Personally, we don’t think they should’ve ever broken up in the first place, complicated history with Maze aside. Plus, Maze even forgives them for keeping their relationship a secret from her in the end, so why couldn’t they just stay together? But we digress. Amenadiel and Linda form a deep connection once Linda gets pregnant, becoming true partners as they raise their human-angel son. It’s the type of circumstance that could have led to such an epic romance… but we love their platonic bond, too.

2. Lucifer & Chloe Decker

We’re sure Deckerstar in second place is going to ruffle some feathers, but hear us out. Lucifer and Chloe are one of those pairings that have great tension, but they’re not that great when when they’re actually together. We know their relationship is what anchors the show and their characters’ growth. They bring out the best in each other as they evolve from coworkers to friends to lovers, but in our humble opinion, they just have better chemistry as friends than they do as lovers. To be fair, we don’t really get to see them as a happy couple for any substantial stretch of time, so that probably has something to do with it. As much as we love a slow burn, Deckerstar is a case of a relationship burning a little too slowly.

1. Maze & Eve

Unlike with most Lucifer romances, we can’t recall ever thinking Maze and Eve shouldn’t end up together. They may have some rocky moments, but Maze and Eve’s arc pulls at our heartstrings the most, even if it’s not the main focus of the show. It’s so satisfying to watch an emotionally-stunted demon that thinks they aren’t capable of love get an epic romance, and Eve not try to change Maze’s nature. It’s even better when Eve leaves to find herself, drawing out the tension more, only to return and know exactly what she wants. The immortal Maze marrying Eve, despite being deeply afraid of her eventual death, is the cherry on top to their stellar love story.
