Every generation is blessed with their own adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Twenty years after Joe Wright‘s 2005 feature adaptation became an instant classic, Netflix is reviving the beloved novel with a six-episode limited series, with Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden set as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
The Netflix adaptation marks the first time in 30 years Pride and Prejudice is back in television form. The 1995 BBC miniseries catapulted Colin Firth to stardom. A decade after that, Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen stole our hearts with their wonderful portrayals of Lizzy and Mr. Darcy.
Author Dolly Alderton has penned a faithful adaptation of the classic novel. “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life,” Alderton said in a statement. “With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
