Jessie Redmond Fremantle

Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 ended with a surprise arrival at the Crossing when Maggie’s (Morgan Kohanhusband, Liam (Marcus Rosner), arrived. Liam’s appearance came just as Maggie and Cal (Chad Michael Murray) had finally gotten on the same page about their future. Maggie has a lot of explaining to do as this blast from her past threatens everything she’s worked so hard to establish at Sullivan’s Crossing. Swooon talked to Kohan about what she thinks Liam’s arrival will mean for Maggie and her relationship with Cal, but she is not the only character at a crossroads at the end of Season 3.

Sully (Scott Patterson) is also entering a new relationship that could take him away from the Crossing, at least temporarily. Frank (Tom Jackson) and Edna (Andrea Menard) are considering what the next phase of their life looks like after her brain tumor health scare in Season 3. Lola (Amalia Williamson) is in the throes of first love with Jacob (Joel Oulette), but they’ll have to contend with long distance if they want their love story to continue in Season 4. Meanwhile, Sydney (Lindura) and Rafe (Dakota Taylor) must decide if their differing views on marriage are a deal-breaker for their entire relationship.

Virtually all of the characters on  Sullivan’s Crossing have big decisions to make going into the season, which leaves us with a lot of burning questions heading into the new season. Here’s what we need answered when the series returns for the next season. What are your burning questions going into Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4? Let us know your thoughts and theories in the comments below.

1. What is Liam doing at the Crossing?

This is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to questions about Maggie’s ex. She describes him earlier in the season as a “season fling,” but obviously, it was a lot more serious than Maggie implied. Why did they get married? Why has Liam only come looking for her now? Are there still romantic feelings there? How is Cal going to process the fact that Maggie was dragging her feet about moving in with him, but she’s married to someone else? Does her relationship with Liam have anything to do with Maggie’s commitment-phobia? There are so many things we need to know about Liam and his relationship with Maggie, but it all starts with what has brought him to the Crossing at this particular moment.

2. Who is going to run the Crossing in Season 4?

Before Liam showed up, Maggie decided she wanted to open her own medical practice in town. That’s going to take a lot of work to set up, so she’ll have less time to help out with Crossing business. Sully wants to go to Ireland to explore his new relationship with Helen (Kate Vernon). Frank and Edna want to travel more so they can fully enjoy their twilight years. That leaves a big question of who is going to run this campground while everyone with a vested interest in it is pursuing other things. Someone needs to step up and run the place or else we’re going to end up back in a Season 1 financial situation.

3. Are Sydney & Rafe going to stay together?

The cliffhanger put the spotlight back on Maggie and Cal’s relationship, but prior to Liam’s arrival, it was Sydney and Rafe w were in serious trouble. Sydney revealed in the Season 3 finale that she has no interest in getting married, but that’s a hard pill for Rafe to swallow. He wants that commitment, and it was unclear by the end of Season 3 if these two would be able to find a middle ground. They got through so much this season that it would be a shame to see them give up over something like this. We’re rooting for you!

4. Will Lola & Jacob make it work long-distance?

Lola finally got her shot of love in Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 when sparks flew between her and Frank’s young cousin, Jacob. The two consummated their relationship after getting stuck in a mine together, but Jacob has to go back to school to finish his master’s degree. He contemplated putting it on hold so that he and Lola could continue their relationship, but she encouraged him to put his education first. These two obviously care about each other and are very encouraging of their professional goals. Will they try and make the long-distance thing work? It seems like they have a strong enough connection to at least give it a try.

5. What does the next stage of life look like for Frank & Edna?

Frank and Edna went through it this season. Edna thought she might go blind and then had to have a life-threatening surgery to remove the brain tumor that caused her vision problems. Maggie stepped up in the OR to save the day, but it was a game-changing moment for the strongest couple on the show. They realized that they didn’t want to spend all of their time catering to the guests at Sullivan’s Crossing. They want some time for themselves to go traveling. However, they are the glue that holds the Crossing together. So what does more traveling and taking time for themselves actually look like? Will it take them away from the Crossing? Will it change their relationships with Maggie, Sully, and the rest of the townspeople? How will everyone cope if Frank and Edna are not around as much to take care of them? We want whatever is best for Frank and Edna, but it’s hard to imagine them being around less.

6. Will Maggie ever mend her relationship with Walter?

One of the lingering threads from Season 2 is Maggie’s fractured relationship with her stepfather Walter (Peter Outerbridge). The two stopped speaking when Maggie discovered that Walter was behind the fraud that led to the collapse of her career in Boston, and he’s been trying to make amends ever since. Maggie finally allowed him a conversation in Season 3, but the duo is far from having a functional relationship again. Maggie has been able to do so much to rebuild her relationship with Sully, but is she willing to do the same for Walter after everything he’s done? It remains to be seen whether Walter can prove himself worthy of having a spot in Maggie’s life again.
