Fans suspect that The Buccaneersis hinting at an illicit romance.
The period drama’s love triangle between Nan (Kristine Frøseth), her new husband Theo (Guy Remmers), and Guy (Matthew Broome) is complicated enough already, but the latest episode could be foreshadowing an even messier situation. Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag) didn’t have any romances in Season 1, but this time around, there’s a chance she’ll have two. There’s newcomer Hector Robinson (Jacob Ifan), a hunky politician that’s been flirting with Lizzy over the past couple of Season 2 episodes… and Theo.
In Episode 2, Lizzy and the Duke shared a scene that had viewers wondering if there could be more than just a friendship blooming between them. They haven’t crossed any lines yet, but after watching more than a few fan edits of the pairing, we knew we had to put Theo and Lizzy through Swooon’s Should They/Shouldn’t They rubric.
Do you think Lizzy should risk her friendship with Nan by pursuing her husband? Is Hector the better choice? Weigh in below!

PRO: They have chemistry.
Lizzy and Theo hadn’t ever really spent time alone together until Episode 2—and when they did, we picked up on some major vibes between them. While they walk through the woods together, Theo confides in Lizzy that he hears Nan secretly crying in her bedroom, and he thanks Lizzy for being a good friend to her. Their conversation is easy, and obviously, Theo trusts Lizzy enough to be vulnerable.
Theo also compares the love triangle he’s in to King Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere, and we can’t help but wonder if another triangle is going to emerge now that Lizzy’s in the equation. She and Theo playfully splash each other in the river, and when she loses her bracelet in the water, they share a seemingly heated glance when he puts it back on her wrist.

CON: Nan & Theo's chances of reconciliation will be pretty much zero.
If you remember how Episode 2 ended, Theo and Nan are already in a pretty bad spot. To get under Theo’s skin, Seadown (Barney Fishwick) reveals that Guy was in the castle on the eve of Theo and Nan’s wedding. Assuming (correctly) that Nan slept with Guy that night, the episode ends with an angry Theo about to confront his wife.
But before that, things seemed to be going well between them. Theo backed Nan up when she made a speech about women’s rights to a room full of stuffy Lords. In a swoonworthy move, Theo saved Nan from an infuriated Seadown afterward. In the aftermath, Nan told her husband that she wanted to make things work between them.
Unfortunately, we’d wager that an affair between Theo and Lizzy will pretty much put the nail in the coffin of their marriage.

PRO: Theo deserves to not be someone's second choice.
Theo has had it rough since Nan came into his life. Theo knew that Nan had stronger feelings for Guy, but he loved her anyway. Not to mention, Nan married Theo knowing that she wasn’t fully in love with him, but she used him anyway for the benefits that come with his title.
We get why she did it, but Theo hasn’t done anything to warrant this treatment. If he does have an affair with Lizzy, at least he would be someone’s first choice for once. We want him to be happy!

CON: It would hurt Lizzy’s friendship with Nan.
The friendship between the girls is the heart of The Buccaneers, so we’d hate to see an affair cause a rift between Lizzy and Nan. They’ve been so supportive of each other through their struggles, which has been heartwarming to watch. Like Theo said, Lizzy has been a good friend to Nan during their difficult marriage in Season 2.
That is, if you don’t count Lizzy hiding and burning Guy’s love letter to Nan. If she ever sees Guy again, we’re willing to bet that Nan will find out about Lizzy’s betrayal. Considering that, these two besties will probably have a falling out regardless of whether or not Lizzy falls for Theo.

CON: Hector is such a dreamy love interest for Lizzy.
After Lizzy was left without a romance in Season 1, we were excited to see Hector express interest in her during the first episode of Season 2. They’ve had some flirty banter going on, and he genuinely seems like a nice guy (and a much safer bet than the Duke). He’s also trying to pass a bill that would give a voice to the working class. What’s not to love? We’d be sad if Lizzy didn’t give Hector a real chance.
