‘Golden Bachelor’ Season 2: Meet Mel Owens’ Contestants — Including a Bachelor Nation Twin (PHOTOS)
It’s time to enter our next Golden Bachelor era. The Golden Bachelor Season 2 premiered September 24 on ABC, with 23 ladies joining Bachelor Nation hoping to find love again with former NFL player Mel Owens, who is a dad of two boys and a divorcé.
The women of Mel’s season are from all across the United States and range in age from 58 to 77 years old. One of the contestants, Andra Mason, is the twin sister of The Golden Bachelor Season 1 star Sandra Mason! The age of the Season 2 ladies has been a massive topic of discussion over the last few months, following the 66-year-old’s candid conversation about what he was looking for in a woman to spend his golden years with.
“I just said, ’45 to 60.’ Just being honest, right?” the divorced former NFL player said on the MGoBlue podcast. “And then the process went and I was selected. Then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, ‘If they’re over 60, I’m cutting them.’ [They said], ‘Oh, no, this is not The Silver Bachelor, this is The Golden Bachelor, but they’re going to be hot, don’t worry about it, don’t worry about it.’ He goes, ‘You can’t use the word cut,’ I go, ‘That’s an NFL term.’”
During The Golden Bachelor Season 2 premiere, Mel will choose one lucky lady for an evening date aboard the Queen Mary. The contestants will then participate in a cheerleading competition judged by legendary singer Paula Abdul. After that, Mel and the women will get to know each other better at a pool party before a pivotal rose ceremony.
The premiere of The Golden Bachelor Season 2 (which will feature legendary singer Paula Abdul) comes two years after Gerry Turner searched for love in the inaugural season of the senior citizen spinoff series. He married his winner, Theresa Nist, in January 2024, but they split just months later. Joan Vassos, one of Gerry’s contestants, was the first lead of The Golden Bachelorette and got engaged to her winner, Chock Chapple.
