‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 Dream Cast: Our Picks For the ‘Family of Liars’ Sinclair Sisters

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for We Were Liars Season 1 and Family of Liars by E. Lockhart.]

We Were Liars may not have been renewed for Season 2 yet, but fans are already fired up about their next summer on Beechwood.

In an interview with SwooonWe Were Liars creators Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie revealed that they already have plans for a potential second season. According to the book-to-screen production team, the second season would follow in the footsteps of E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars book series, making the basis of their Season 2 plot the book’s prequel-like sequel, Family of Liars.

Family of Liars takes place 27 years before the events of We Were Liars, when the Sinclair sisters (played by Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Candice King in the adaptation) were teenagers. Following a tragic accident, Carrie (Gummer) struggles to cope while the rest of the family employs their classic “chin up and move on” attitude. The following summer at Beechwood, the sisters’ world is rattled again when their cousin Yardley arrives with three unpredictable boys in tow.

Like the first season, viewers should expect a dual timeline. However, this time, it looks like the story will span multiple decades. While the creators teased that Season 2 will unlock “the Sinclair sister villain origin story,” they were sure to mention that their present-day cast would still be in the picture, even though they are rarely seen in Family of Liars.

As we eagerly await We Were Liars‘ Season 2 renewal, we couldn’t help but create a dream cast for the actresses we’d love to see play the ’90s-era Sinclair sisters, along with some of the new characters we expect to see introduced during the next season.

Do you agree with our We Were Liars Season 2 dream cast? Comment below with who you would pick to play young Carrie, Penny, Bess, and more!

We Were Liars, Season 1, Streaming Now, Prime Video

Lizzy Greene as Carrie Sinclair

While Season 1 of We Were Liars followed Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence, Family of Liars indicated that young Carrie Sinclair will lead Season 2. To portray a young Mamie Gummer, we’ve chosen Lizzy Greene, best known for portraying Lauren in the Netflix hit Ransom Canyon. Bearing a solid resemblance to the modern-day Sinclairs, we believe that Greene would convey both the sincerity and messiness needed to bring young Carrie to life.

Amybeth McNulty as Penny Sinclair

Before she was Cadence’s mother, Penny was a privileged heiress with a knack for romance. Our young Penny needs to capture the character’s cold charisma and eventual emotional breakdown. To portray young Penny Sinclair, we’d love to see Anne with an E star Amybeth McNulty. While McNulty certainly has a stacked resume, it’s the shocking resemblance to the character’s modern-day counterpart, Caitlin FitzGerald, that sealed the deal for us.

Shay Rudolph as Bess Sinclair

Before she was fighting over her family’s inheritance, Bess Sinclair was a feisty freshman entering high school. To portray young Bess in all her mood-swinging glory, we’ve tapped Shay Rudolph, who is best known for acting in The Baby-Sitters Club as Stacey McGill. Bess life was messy long before she met Salty Dan, and even though Candice King leaves major shoes to fill, we believe that Rudolph’s portrayal of young Bess would give viewers a whole new perspective on the character.

Rain Spencer as Yardley Sinclair

In Family of Liars, we meet the Sinclairs’ spunky, boyfriend-hopping cousin, Yardley. As The Summer I Turned Pretty wraps up this summer, we can’t think of anyone better to enter the We Were Liars universe than Rain Spencer. While viewers will see that Yardley and Carrie’s relationship in the past is quite different than Cadence’s relationship with the rest of the Liars, we have to admit, we’re curious to know where Yardley is during the present-day timeline as well.

Michael Cimino as Pfeff in We Were Liars Season 2 based on Family of Liars

Michael Cimino as Lawrence "Pfeff" Pfefferman

Oh, Pfeff. Of all of the Family of Liars characters we are most excited to see hit the small screen, Carrie’s summer-time crush, Pfeff, is at the top of our list. To portray the “irresistible, unpredictable boy,” we envision Love, Victor, and Motorheads star Michael Cimino. Sure, we’ve already seen Cimino play a hunky romantic lead, but we’re ever so curious to see what he would do with the darker side of Pfeff’s story.

Louis Partridge as George in We Were Liars Season 2 based on Family of Liars

Louis Partridge as George Bryce-Amory

Yardley may come with three teenage boys, but Carrie is quick to learn that her canoe-racer boyfriend, George, is the most important. While Carrie recalls that George’s personality was “beige,” we’re hoping to see Spencer with an actor worthy of a hot summer fling. To play George, we’d love to see Enola Holmes star Louis Partridge. Not only is he a phenomenal romantic actor, but Partridge also has a thrilling love life, dating pop star Olivia Rodrigo. Looks like a fantastic actor and soundtrack musician duo for Season 2 to us…

Kit Connor as Major in We Were Liars Season 2 based on Family of Liars

Kit Connor as Jeremy "Major" Majorino

Let’s just say, it would be major news for us if Heartstopper star Kit Connor joined We Were Liars. We’d love to see Kit Connor as one of George’s best friends, Major. While the actor would have to swap his Britain for Brooklyn, he’s a perfect pick to play the seasick art student.
