Of all the projects to get stuck in production limbo, we sure wish it wasn’t A Court of Thorns and Roses. Back in 2021, Hulu said that its TV show adaptation of the romantasy sensation — with author Sarah J. Maas and Outlander boss Ronald D. Moore executive producing no less — was a go. After years of little to no news, Deadline reported that Hulu had dropped ACOTAR.

Last we heard in 2024, 20th Century Studios hadn’t completely abandoned the project, as per TVLine. We’re choosing to hold out hope that one day, we’ll see the story of Feyre Archeron and the Fae realm of Prythian make its way to the small screen. What better way to manifest that it happens than by fancasting the lead role?

Readers have put forward a few suggestions over the years, ranging from The Buccaneers Kristine Frøseth to The Witcher‘s Freya Allan. We’ve put together our top five picks to play Feyre below. Keep scrolling for the options, and then weigh in with the poll below. Feel free to take the debate to the comments, where you can also put forward any other suggestions!

Kristine Frøseth

Frøseth might just be the popular choice among fans to play Feyre, and we totally see the vision. For one, she has the look down with her golden brown hair and blue-grey eyes. But more importantly, she has the acting ability to helm ACOTAR. In The Buccaneers, she plays a complex, strong heroine who goes from naïve and vulnerable to hardened and tough. With Feyre, it’s pretty much the reverse, since she starts off as the jaded sole provider for her family, but she opens her heart once she’s whisked away to the Fae Spring Court. But like Frøseth’s Nan St. George character, Feyre’s got a grit and determination that no one can shake.

Freya Allan

Allan has been in our ACOTAR dream cast ever since we saw her in The Witcher. That show proves that she knows her way around a romantasy and that she’s capable of capturing Feyre’s braveness and determination. As strong as Ciri is, she’s also damaged and traumatized, so we think she could pull of Feyre’s moments of weakness, too. Plus, Allan could pass for Feyre’s age in the book (19), so she could grow with the series. And she’s got fighting experience!

Danielle Rose Russell

If you’ve watched The Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies, you likely already know why we had to include Russell on our list. Her character in that show, Hope Mikaelson, is strong and fiercely protective of her loved ones, like Feyre. Both also grapple with past trauma in their respective stories. Given all of that, we’re willing to bet that Russell’s Legacies experience would translate well to the ACOTAR adaptation.

Talia Ryder

Ryder is a bit more of a wildcard pick, but we’ve seen her name pop up a few times in ACOTAR dream casts. Like Allan, she’s the right age and fits Feyre’s physical description. She’s newer to the scene, having first got on our radar with Netflix’s Do Revenge rom-com, but she started proving her talent from a young age. Ryder masterfully captured a complicated, jaded character in the coming-of-age story The Sweet East, which could set her up for success as Feyre. We can definitely recognize her potential.

Alycia Debnam-Carey

We’re most familiar with Debnam-Carey in The 100 as Lexa, a powerful warrior and clan leader. She undergoes a lot of growth throughout the series, showing her vulnerable side when she falls in love with Clarke (Eliza Taylor). That performance alone is more that enough evidence that she could handle the role of Feyre. The only caveat is that she is a bit older than the character at 32, but that’s not the be-all and end-all. She can pass for mid-twenties, which works for us!
