Kelly Monaco Should Reunite With ‘GH’ Costar Jason Thompson on ‘Y&R’

General Hospital has bid farewell to Sam McCall, so what’s next for Kelly Monaco? The actress has been a mainstay on daytime soaps for over 20 years. She’s a soap icon.

She started in soaps as Livvie Locke on the GH spinoff Port Charles in 1999. After the show’s cancellation, Monaco joined General Hospital, and she’d been there ever since.

But Monaco’s daytime career doesn’t have to stop at General Hospital. Another soap could easily craft a new and exciting role for her — and that show should be The Young & the Restless. The long-running soap needs a new character to spice up Genoa City, and Monaco would be perfect.

Plus, this would reunite her with Jason Thompson, her costar once upon a time on GH. Thompson currently plays Billy Abbott on the CBS soap. He played Dr. Patrick Drake on GH from 2007 to 2016. Billy has been dealing with company drama (what’s new?), and a brewing connection with Sally (Courtney Hope) continues to grow.

But what if Monaco stepped into Genoa City to steal Billy’s heart? Once upon a time, Monaco and Thompson were onscreen love interests on General Hospital. They had an enemies energy at first, but they formed a close friendship that evolved into a romantic one. Sam and Patrick’s romance didn’t last, but there’s no denying they had chemistry. They could amplify this even more as new characters on The Young and the Restless.

Now, Monaco would need to play a character who is different from Sam McCall, which would be a refreshing change for her. Trust me, I love Sam and hope Monaco will one day return, but a Y&R role should be a change of pace. A character with a connection to someone in Genoa City, perhaps? Or a character looking to shake things up at Abbott-Chancellor. The possibilities are endless.
