Sam McCall has been a staple on General Hospital ever since her character arrived in 2003. Kelly Monaco joined the show after the cancellation of Port Charles, the GH spinoff. While she played Livvie Locke on Port Charles, Sam McCall was a new character created for General Hospital.
Sam became a beloved character on the GH scene almost instantly. Over the years, she’s fallen in love with many fine gentlemen, a testament to Monaco’s effortless ability to have chemistry with literally anyone. From her slow burn romance with Jason (the real one) to her current romance with Dante, Sam has never been afraid to open her heart.
Monaco’s time on the long-running soap is coming to an end, and Port Charles just won’t be the same without her.

6. Sam and Sonny
Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Sam were barely a blip on the romance radar, but their affair was crucial to Sam’s journey. Sam got pregnant during her affair with Sonny, and she was unsure at first whether Sonny or Jax (Ingo Rademacher) had fathered her child. Sonny was later deemed to be the father, but he refused to leave his family. In the midst of the baby drama, Sam and Jason (Steve Burton) grew closer and eventually fell in love.
5. Sam and Silas
Look, this was just an excuse for me to talk about Monaco and Michael Easton‘s chemistry. They first ignited onscreen on Port Charles when Livvie fell in love with seductive vampire Caleb Morley.
Easton’s played a number of characters on GH — long story — but Silas Clay had a brief and passionate romance with Sam. Monaco and Easton’s magnetic pull couldn’t be denied. Even though Silas and Sam didn’t last, it was a treat to see the actors turn up the heat with the Siam romance.
4. Sam and Patrick
When Patrick (Jason Thompson) first rolled into town, Sam wasn’t his biggest fan. Over the years, they developed a deep friendship and later romantic relationship. Sam and Patrick made a really great team, whether it was investigating a car accident or parenting their kids. They were both willing to move forward with each other, as long as Robin (Kimberly McCullough) and Jason weren’t around. But once Jason reentered the picture, Sam and Patrick’s romance fizzled out.
3. Sam and Dante
Sam’s current relationship is a solid partnership. Even though there are some questionable family dynamics — they share two siblings, but they’re not related — Sam and Dante (Dominica Zamprogna) have managed to carve out a happy life together despite the obstacles thrown at them. With Lulu (Alexa Havins) inevitably waking up soon and Monaco’s exit imminent, it’ll be very interesting to see how Dante and Sam’s relationship wraps up.
2. Sam and Drew
Monaco should honestly teach a MasterClass in onscreen chemistry because the actress is an expert. When Billy Miller joined GH, he was originally the new Jason after Burton’s departure. It was later revealed that this Jason was actually Drew, Jason’s twin brother.
Miller and Monaco’s dynamic was electrifying. They created such a beautiful intimacy onscreen together. Watching these two together was like lightning in a bottle.
1. Sam and Jason
Was there any question about which Sam McCall romance would be #1? It had to be JaSam.
Jason and Sam fell in love in the wake of tragedy: the death of Sam’s daughter. Jason telling Sam her baby died was one of the most gut-wrenching scenes in GH history. As they healed, Jason and Sam opened up their hearts to each other and established themselves as a great GH supercouple.
Burton and Monaco’s remarkable chemistry made them an inevitable pairing on the soap. Sam was able to get past that iron wall Jason put around his heart, and he helped mend her broken one. They weren’t just lovers; they were partners.
Even though they’re no longer together, when we think of GH soulmates, we automatically think of JaSam.
