Lara Spencer is making her CMA Fest hosting debut at the 2026 concert, which airs June 25 on ABC. She’ll be cohosting the event alongside country star (and The Voice Season 30 coach) Riley Green.
Spencer has been a staple on ABC for nearly 30 years, having joined Good Morning America as a correspondent in 1999. She is now a coanchor and lifestyle reporter for the popular morning talk show.

What does Lara Spencer’s husband do for a living?
McVey is the founder of MarketAxess, a “leading electronic trading platform for fixed-income securities.” He cofounded the company in 2000 and retired from his role as executive chairman in December 2024. Prior to that, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of the company until April 2023.
Per McVey’s LinkedIn, “MarketAxess emerged as the leading electronic trading platform for global credit products, creating an efficient and competitive marketplace for over 1,800 global institutional investor and broker-dealer firms.”
Before creating his company, McVey worked at J.P. Morgan for seven years. Today, he is focused primarily on his philanthropic efforts. He donated $20 million to his alma mater, The University of Miami, to help fund the Richard M. McVey Data Science Building.
How did Lara Spencer meet her husband?
Spencer and McVey were set up by a mutual friend on a blind date. They were introduced in 2016 and got engaged two years later, then tied the knot in September 2018.
Who is Lara Spencer’s first husband?
Spencer’s first husband was David Haffenreffer. He was formerly a reporter for CNN and later turned his career to real estate. The two were married for 15 years from 2000 to 2015.

When the former couple announced their split, they said, “After a lot of thought, care and consideration, we have decided to end our marriage. It’s a sad decision that did not come easily, especially because we respect and love each other and our children. They remain our top priority. We will raise them and care for them together.”
Spencer and Haffenreffer have remained amicable and have reunited at events for their children, such as graduation.
Does Lara Spencer have kids?
Yes, Spencer shares a son, Duff, born in 2002, and daughter, Kate, born in 2004, with Haffenreffer. Duff walked her down the aisle when she married McVey.
McVey also has three children from a previous relationship, but he and Spencer do not have any kids together.
