‘Maxton Hall’ Season 3: Steamy First Look at Ruby & James Revealed

Maxton Hall — The World Between Us has become a global obsession, so it only makes sense Prime Video would include the show in its “Obsession Is In Session” preview! On April 30, the streamer released first look footage of its upcoming romance shows and movies, and let’s just say that Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James’ (Damian Hardung) relationship looks steamier than ever!

In 2024, viewers first fell in love with German-language series. Following Mona Kasten’s trilogy of the same name, Maxton Hall sees scholarship student Ruby and fashion house heir James go from enemies to lovers. The premise led to the show becoming the most-watched International Original Series ever on Prime Video, so it quickly earned a Season 2 renewal. The Season 2 finale left Ruby and James’ fate on a major cliffhanger when it aired in November, so fans have been eager for more details about Maxton Hall Season 3.

Maxton Hall‘s final season was greenlit in June 2025, with both Hardung and Herbig-Matten set to return as James and Ruby. There’d been no footage of the upcoming season — until now. Keep reading for all the teases and everything else we know so far.

When does Maxton Hall Season 3 come out?

There’s still no news about a Season 3 release date, though the first look footage seems to point toward a 2026 release date.

Plus, on December 1, Prime Video revealed that filming had officially wrapped. Not only that, but the streamer also offered up some images of Ruby, James, and the rest of the cast in the upcoming season. “It’s a wrap on S3,” Hardung captioned an Instagram Story, reposting the photos. “That’s it. Thank you for 3 wonderful seasons.”

For reference, Season 2 completed filming in September 2024 and episodes dropped a little over a year later. If Season 3 follows suit, that means fans could be looking at a late 2026 release date at the earliest.

Who is in the Maxton Hall Season 3 cast?

The new photos also confirmed that several cast members are returning, beyond Herbig-Matten and Hardung. Sonja Weißer will once again appear as Lydia Beaufort, as will Eidin Jalali as Mr. Sutton.

When Swooon asked the actress about Lydia and Sutton’s romance, Weißer said, “[Their love] is rooted in meeting each other when Sutton was still studying, but at the same time, I personally find their dynamic problematic. What I find interesting is if and how Lydia will reflect this aspect herself. Maybe we will see this someday.” She also added that Lydia “grows even more in Season 3.”

Andrea Guo will appear as Lin, Esmael Agostinho as Wren, Ben Felipe as Cyril, Justus Riesner as Alistair, and Govinda Gabriel Cholleti as Keshav. Dagny Dewath will reprise her role as Aunt Ophelia. Though he didn’t appear in the Season 3 photos, it can be expected that Fedja van Huêt will come back as the villainous Mortimer Beaufort.

“I think it’s different than Season 2,” Herbig-Matten told Swooon in a joint interview with Hardung. “I feel like we have more like group scenes together, and I really enjoy that, and the focus is also on the other characters, and I think that’s really great, just to give them space.”

“I think we have such great supporting actors and actresses and roles in the series that haven’t had the space,” Hardung added. “And I think if you read the third book, a lot of the narratives, a lot of the chapters, are told also through their perspectives. And I think that’s so valuable. I mean, from my perspective, having read those James chapters is really interesting because you have your own inner monologues, and I think having that from a number of perspectives, or Wren’s perspective or Cyril’s perspective, just adds so many layers to the stories.”

Is there a Maxton Hall Season 3 trailer?

We wish. There’s no trailer yet, but we will be playing those Obsessed Fest clips on repeat. One shows James and Ruby passionately locking lips in the courtyard of Maxton Hall. It looks like Ruby’s back in uniform, so that could mean she gets un-expelled from school. That’s not really a major surprise: We know James wouldn’t rest until Ruby’s name was cleared!

Another major takeaway: James on a motorcycle! Well, we’re assuming it’s James, since the clip doesn’t show his face. But really, who else could it be?

Is there a third Maxton Hall book?

Even though we don’t know the plot details of Season 3 yet, we can read the third book in the Maxton Hall series, Save Us. The book was released in 2018, and its English translation is now available. The first two books in the trilogy, Save Me and Save You, were re-released in English as well.

Save Us is called “the grand finale” of James and Ruby’s love story. It picks up where the second book left off: Ruby was just expelled from school. Someone exposed the photos that James took when he was still at odds with Ruby, which made her look like she was kissing a teacher. Now, Ruby’s dream of going to Oxford is at risk. She’s also under the impression that James is responsible, despite their rekindling their romance in the second book.

The official blurb for Save Us reads: “However, after an explosive fight between the two, they discover a terrible truth. Together, Ruby fights to graduate, as James tries to clear her name at school. But that means once again, James must challenge his father and his expectations for him. And despite everything, James still threatens to break under the obligations to his family. Ruby and James must ask themselves if the worlds they live in are perhaps too different after all, or if they can finally find a way back to each other.”
