‘Yellowstone’: Wes Bentley Talks Jamie’s High-Stakes Relationship With Sarah in Season 5 Part 2
Even Wes Bentley can’t tell if Jamie Dutton and Sarah Atwood are using each other. But he says that all questions about Sarah will be answered in Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2, which is said to be the western drama’s final season.
After playing a Dutton ancestor, Claire Dutton, in 1883, Dawn Olivieri returned to the universe as the modern-day Dutton family’s newest enemy in Yellowstone‘s fifth season. Sarah was called in by Market Equities to fix the financial disaster caused by Beth Dutton’s (Kelly Reilly) genius move of placing her family’s land in a conservation easement, leading to the end of the firm’s airport plans. Sarah quickly set her eyes on Jamie, the easy target who was deeply wounded by his father’s rejection.
They got into a steamy sexual relationship and together aimed to remove Kevin Costner‘s John Dutton from office and replace him with Jamie. Beth and John ended the last season ready to take Jamie to the train station. The Season 5 Part 2 premiere, which comes out this Sunday, November 10, on Paramount Network and CBS, will feature an earth-shattering event that will change everyone’s lives in the show forever and likely explain how the Dutton family patriarch is being written out of the series. Bentley tells TV Insider that Jamie and Sarah are coming in ready for a fight that they plan to win.
With Jamie being the black sheep of the Dutton family, he clings to Sarah as his only source of connection. If she is lying about her feelings for Jamie, which he has long suspected, she’s doing a great job concealing it.
“It’s interesting, the connection between Sarah and Jamie. I can’t tell, are these real feelings? Are they both using each other? Is one using the other? Is there something at play here?” Bentley tells us. “I was curious about that myself as I did [Season 5 Part 1] and trying to figure out where Jamie was coming from with her, where she was coming from. We do find that out as we get into the next part of the season. Because of what they’re doing, the stakes are really high on their relationship and what it actually means.”
If they are lying about their intentions with each other, Bentley says that might be OK for this pair. “That might be the relationship they’re looking for,” he says with a laugh.
Bentley and the cast are sworn to secrecy about what happens in the premiere, and the episode wasn’t made available to press in advance, so we’ll all find out John’s fate together. Whatever happens, Jamie and Sarah’s relationship is seriously affected by it.
As Bentley previously told TV Insider, “Sarah and Jamie enter [the premiere] full-on ready for a fight and expecting to win.” He continues: “I don’t think Jamie’s coming from a place of real strength, but I think he’s coming from a place of, he’s finally just going to manufacture something and push it through. Jamie also knows that his life is on the line right now too. He is feeling his life in danger, and so he’s wild, unpredictable, unstable as usual, and he’s dangerous. And he and Sarah come in as a danger.”
Could Jamie and Sarah be involved in John’s demise? Find out when Yellowstone returns.
