Supercouple ‘Superman & Lois’ Face New Threat to Their Heroic Love Story (VIDEO)

Hear me out: There’s never been a better representation of the romance between Lois Lane and Clark Kent than The CW’s Superman & Lois.

Yes, there have been great Clarks and great Loises. Campy ones. Broody ones. And, of course, cartoon ones. But none have ever nailed the marrow-deep, sacrifice-it-all love they have for one another—and their kin—than this one.

Since its premiere, the Arrowverse-adjacent series has never been shy about its intention to be the grounded tale of a family that just so happens to also have superpowers running through its blood. Whether it’s been dealing with their angsty teen sons (Alex Garfin, Michael Bishop), fighting off alien threats, or facing the harrowing realities of Lois’ aggressive cancer together, the Kents have always been the beating heart of S&L. And that is all thanks the wonder-twin combo of gorgeous writing and the chemistry between Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch who, despite not having the luxury of playing out their earlier Metropolis-set courtship, have given us one of TV’s best love stories.

“We did sort of play the whole meet-cute [between them], but that was far into Season 1’s flashback episode,” recalls Tulloch, adding that she and Hoechlin instead established the couple’s dynamic during their first appearances on the splashier Arrowverse. “Tyler and I had already shot the crossovers together for two years prior, 2018 and 2019, before we started filming the fall of 2020. So by the time we were filming our show, we already knew each other and were pretty comfortable with each other.”

“And for me, it really all starts with the writing. And the writing here was so good, we just sort of fell into it. Tyler and I luckily just get along really well, and we have very similar work ethics, so we work the same way. And I don’t take that for granted, because not all actors do.” It’s that real-life bond, clearly, that allows the actors to bring even more authenticity to the table. In most cases, the one in the kitchen.

“Yeah, they do love shooting in the kitchen!” laughed Tulloch when we spoke to her earlier this season about the show’s final run. “But I mean, listen, isn’t that true for almost every family? Doesn’t the majority of your life and everything, it just takes place in the kitchen. It’s amazing to me. We’ll have parties or something and the backyard all checked out and candles and food, and somehow everyone’s in the kitchen!”

As you see in the exclusive clip from next week’s episode, “Sharp Dressed Man,” we’re back in the Kent’s kitchen, where Lois opens up to Clark about her fears regarding an upcoming scan to see if her cancer is back. It’s raw, realistic, and, fittingly, a prime example of how this show has always known that the love between Lois and Clark is their greatest superpower.
