Drew Barrymore Celebrates ’50 First Dates’ Anniversary With Never-Before-Seen Photo With Adam Sandler

It seems impossible to believe, but the beloved rom-com 50 First Dates came out more than 20 years ago. The film was released on February 13, 2004, which means that its 21st anniversary was this week.
Drew Barrymore, who starred in the movie alongside Adam Sandler, commemorated the occasion by posting a throwback photo from the movie set on the day of the anniversary.
“Throwing it back @adamsandler,” she captioned the never-before-seen shot, which featured the fresh-faced actors sitting on a bench at night. The image was seemingly taken while they were filming a scene where Sandler sings “Forgetful Lucy” to Barrymore’s character Lucy, who loses her memory every morning and can’t recall events that took place following the day she was in a car accident.

Of course, that means she can’t remember meeting Henry (Sandler), who, in turn, has to make her fall in love with him again every morning.
Barrymore and Sandler are undoubtedly classic rom-com stars, and have starred in several films together over the years. Their first collaboration was in 1998’s The Wedding Singer, which had fans begging for them to work together again. They finally got their wish when the two teamed up for 50 First Dates.
In 2014, Sandler and Barrymore were back on the silver screen with the movie Blended. Aside from being costars, the two are also friends in real life. In 2024, the actress revealed that Sandler has been one of her biggest supporters amid her journey as a talk show host.
“His belief in this was really profound to me,” she said at Paley Center’s An Evening With Drew Barrymore. “Because there was a part of me thinking, like, ‘Am I going away from something that has been so good to me, or maybe where I should belong or be?’ And so when he would send me [photos of himself watching the show], and be so encouraging all the time … he did the pilot, the sales tape; I flew up to Boston to interview him!”
She added, “[Him] doing that made me feel like you’re doing the right thing, you’re doing the right thing. And I needed that from someone like him, because he’s such an anchor for me professionally and personally.”
