Madison Chock and Evan Bates are back on the ice for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The professional ice dancers have been skating together since 2011, and their strong chemistry and partnership has led to questions about their relationship outside of the rink.

Are Madison Chock and Evan Bates in a relationship?
Yes! Chock and Bates have been happily married since June 20, 2024. The two tied the knot in Hawaii, in honor of Chock’s parents who were born and raised there. They celebrated over the course of three days at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel in Waikiki, hosting guests that included other Olympic figure skaters. The festivities were tropical themed and featured beachside golf, Hawaiian musical performances, and fun games.
How did Madison Chock and Evan Bates meet?
Chock met Bates for the first time when she was just 12 years old and had moved to Michigan to pursue a serious career as an ice skater.
However, it wasn’t until 2011, when Chock was 19, that she and Bates were first partnered up to be a duo for the 2011-2012 figure skating season. They were first announced as partners in July 2011. Just the year before, Bates had placed 11th at the 2010 Olympics with Emily Samuelson. However, from the moment he was paired with Chock, it seemed meant to be. Chock shared with NBC Sports that the two had “good chemistry right from the start.” He proposed in 2022.

When did Madison Chock and Evan Bates start dating?
Chock and Bates first announced they were dating in late 2017 after about one year together and over 10 years of friendship. According to Bates, he was the first to make a move.
“Well, I pretty much told Maddie that I loved her,” Bates said in an interview with Today. “That changed things a lot.” Just when you thought it couldn’t get any cuter, it turns out their first date predated their relationship by years and actually took place on Chock’s 16th birthday, although things fizzled out before the two officially got together.
“We just really fell in love on the ice and grew closer together,” Bates told Us Weekly. “I love her personality. I love her zest for life.”
How many Olympic medals have Madison Chock and Evan Bates won?
So far, Chock and Bates are two-time Olympic gold medalists as a duo. They won gold in the figure skating team event at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, and then again at Milan Cortina in 2026.
Chock and Bates have also won six U.S. national titles together, as well as the 2023, 2024, and 2025 World Championships. On top of that, they are three-time Grand Prix Final champions, three-time Four Continent champions, and boast more than 20 ISU Grand Prix medals.
Bates first attended the Olympics in 2010 with then-partner Emily Samuelson. Chock competed in her first Olympics shortly after in 2014.
When they won the 2024 World Championships, Chock gave Bates the sweetest shoutout on Instagram. “@evanbates I love you ❤️ I’m so proud of you and honored to be your partner on and off the ice. Sealed this deal with a kiss,” she wrote.
Do Evan Bates and Madison Chock have kids?
No, the couple does not have any children. However, they adopted two toy poodles together in 2018. Their names are Stella and Henry.
