April 1

The Age of Innocence

Martin Scorsese isn’t often associated with the romance genre, but he created a stellar addition with The Age of Innocence. Adapted from Edith Wharton’s novel of the same name, this period piece is an interesting look at the high society culture of 1920s New York and has a dramatically cruel love triangle between Newland Archer (Daniel Day-Lewis), Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer), and May Welland (Winona Ryder).

Couples Retreat

Focused on four different couples, the rom-com is set in the tropical paradise of Bora Bora as some try to soak in the wonders of the French Polynesian island, while others try to fix their relationship. This is not a bizarre pursuit considering they are at a couples retreat with personalized therapists. With so many changes in the span of a few days, you start wondering who will stay together.

They both go after the same promotion and craft a deal, whoever doesn’t get it has to quit their job. Throughout the journey, they realize that they have more in common than just a passion for their job. The movie is based on the Sally Thorne bestseller of the same name.
