Sofia Carson Shares ‘My Oxford Year’ Adaptation Update: ‘It Feels Like a Classic’

Sofia Carson has become Netflix’s queen of adaptations. Her latest film, The Life List, is based on the Lori Nelson Spielman novel of the same name. But that’s not the only book adaptation she’s been working on.
The actress has also filmed My Oxford Year, an adaptation of Julia Whelan’s 2018 romance novel. Carson spoke with Swooon about her upcoming film, which follows Carson’s character as she travels to Oxford to fulfill her childhood dream. However, a charming man she meets when she gets there changes her life forever.
“I don’t have a super exciting update, but I was watching the last edit last night, and we’re locking the cut literally today, which is very exciting,” she told Swooon when we spoke to her at The Life List junket.
She added, “I’m really excited to share this one with the world, especially if you’re a fan of the book. I hope we do it justice. It’s such a beautiful love story, and it feels like a classic. It was really beautiful to be able to bring that to life.”
Carson also confirmed that My Oxford Year will “be on Netflix this year.” Two Sofia Carson movies in one year? We’re seated!
The Purple Hearts star’s My Oxford Year costar is a fellow Netflix favorite. Corey Mylchreest, who had his breakout moment as King George in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will play the man who woos Carson’s character when she studies at Oxford.
She also wouldn’t rule out a sequel to her 2022 hit Purple Hearts, which was based on Tess Wakefield’s novel. “There is a chance [for a sequel]. I won’t say no,” she revealed.
