Who Did Bay & Daphne End Up With on ‘Switched at Birth’? How Their Romances Wrapped Up

When a high school chemistry lab leads to privileged teen Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) learning that she was accidentally switched at birth with Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc), a working-class teenager who became deaf when she was three, their opposite worlds collide, changing the girls and their families’ lives forever.

Even though Bay and Daphne eventually become best friends, it’s safe to say that the two got off to a rocky start, stealing best friends, boyfriends, and more from each other. Perhaps no one got between them more than Emmett Bledsoe (Sean Berdy), Daphne’s motorcycle-riding best friend, who quickly falls for Bay.

While Bay and Emmett’s graffitied relationship timeline still lives rent-free in our minds and every Kyler England song transports us right back to Monday nights on ABC Family, we’ll admit, our love for Switched at Birth‘s most iconic couple was always about the journey more than the destination.

Eight years after all the ups and downs of Bay and Emmett’s relationship, it’s time to ask: Did Bay and Emmett actually end up together? Scroll down for a refresh on Bay and Emmett, Daphne’s endgame, and more.

Who does Bay end up with on Switched at Birth?

After seasons of seeming like she would end up with Emmett, Bay was in a long-distance relationship with Travis Barnes (Ryan Lane), a classmate Emmett’s mother took in, in the series finale. Travis was originally introduced as a love interest for Daphne at the end of the first season, and the two dated for a portion of the second season. However, at the end of Season 4, Travis revealed he had romantic feelings for Bay. Following a 10-month time jump between seasons, the unexpected couple seemingly forged a healthy relationship, one strong enough for Bay to tell Emmett it’s too late for them to get back together.

Ultimately, the series finale saw Travis take a professional baseball position in Japan. Bay decided to stay in Kansas City to pursue her blossoming career in tattooing, but the couple embraced long distance. Do we think their relationship was strong enough for them to still be together today? (Probably not.)

Why did Bay and Emmett break up?

Whether you call them Bemmett or EBay, every fan knows that Bay and Emmett were *the* Switched at Birth couple. The two became friends during the first season when Emmett joined Bay in her mission to find her birth father. Ultimately, the two started dating and confessed their love for one another, only for Emmett to make the grave mistake of sleeping with another girl and confessing to Bay at prom… yikes.

A couple of seasons and a few short relationships later, Bay admitted that she never stopped loving Emmett, and they got back together. Unfortunately, like most high school couples, the reason Bay and Emmett finally called it quits was distance. The two grew apart after heading off to different colleges. Even worse, when she went to visit him, Bay learned that Emmett had written a screenplay about her real-life trauma. This time, she told him that if they were going to break up, it would be for good.

Emmett attempted to win Bay back in the final season, but Bay told him that she was going to stay with Travis. The two shared a moving goodbye in the series finale when Emmett told Bay he was leaving town for a while. She sweetly told him that when he returned, she’d get to say, “I knew him. He was my first love.” This was followed by a montage of their love story to Kyler England’s “We Rise Like Smoke.” After all that, it’s no surprise that many still believe they were endgame. (Emmett notably did not end up with anyone in the series finale.)

Who does Daphne end up with on Switched at Birth?

From a fling with Bay’s very recent ex-boyfriend, Liam (Charles Michael Davis), to an enemies-to-lovers relationship with Travis after she learned he was sleeping in her dad’s car wash, it’s safe to say Daphne made quite a few interesting choices in the dating department. Her list of exes also contained quite a few surprises. During the first season, she dated a pre-Elvis Austin Butler, who played her brother’s best friend, Wilkie. Recognize Sweet MagnoliasJustin Bruening? She dated him, too. He played Daphne’s boss turned love interest, Chef Jeff.

In the end, Daphne found love with her college situationship Greg “Mingo” Shimingo (Adam Hagenbuch). While the two are on-again, off-again for the majority of the fourth and fifth seasons, Daphne and Mingo decided that they “deserve each other” in the final episode when they revealed they had both been lying about seeing other people.

Who does Toby end up with?

Aside from Bay and Daphne, another character whose love life was up in the air through most of the series was their brother, Toby Kennish, played by Lucas Grabeel, a.k.a. Ryan from High School Musical. During the second season, Toby met Nikki (Cassi Thomson) at a jam session at church, and the two immediately hit it off. While Nikki was far more devoted to her faith than he was, they overcame their religious barrier and fell in love. When Nikki told Toby that she was offered a position to teach in Peru for six months, he proposed to her, and the young couple got married. However, when she returned, she realized she loved her life in Peru more than she loved being with him, which led to their divorce.

Ultimately, Toby married Lily Summers (Rachel Shenton), a teacher who lived in the apartment above him. While she originally broke up with Toby to pursue a crush on her coworker, the two were brought back together when she got pregnant. At the end of the series, Toby, Lily, and their baby, Carlton, who was born with Down syndrome, moved into his parents’ guest house, taking over the house that Daphne and her mom moved into at the beginning of the series.
