‘Ransom Canyon’s Garrett Wareing & Andrew Liner Share Wild ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Audition Story
Garrett Wareing and Andrew Liner are having their moment as Lucas and Reid on Netflix’s buzzed-about new series Ransom Canyon. The characters are involved in a love triangle with Lauren (Lizzy Greene) on the show.
So, we had to put them to the test by asking them their opinions of some of the great TV love triangles, including the one between Conrad (Christopher Briney), Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), and Belly (Lola Tung) on The Summer I Turned Pretty. Well, they didn’t have much of an opinion, but they did have a story to share about the beloved teen romance series.
“All I know is the same person who casted Ransom Canyon did The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Liner told Swooon, before directing his attention to Wareing. “And I’m pretty sure you went out for both boys [Conrad and Jeremiah], as well?”
Wareing responded, “For sure,” and Liner jumped back in to explain, “We both went out for both characters and ended up not booking it, and then booking this later on.”

Ah, what could have been! Of course, The Summer I Turned Pretty is heading into its third and final season this summer, so fans are already so used to Briney and Casalengo in the leading roles, and in the end, it all worked out for Wareing and Liner, too.
On Ransom Canyon, Reid is the football star, and Lauren is the head cheerleader, making them an obvious match. However, Lauren’s dreams of getting out of Ransom lead to her forming a connection with Lucas, who wants the same thing. Needless to say, Reid isn’t going to let Lauren go without a fight.
