‘TVD’s Candice King & ‘The Originals’ Star Steven Krueger Are Engaged: ‘Best Gift of All’
The Vampire Diaries star Candice King is engaged to Steven Krueger, who appeared in all five seasons of spinoff The Originals. The couple announced the news via Instagram on Wednesday, May 14.
King made the reveal in honor of her 38th birthday, but revealed that Krueger actually popped the questions a few weeks prior.
“I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet 🎂 ♥️,” the actress gushed. “A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him. The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you. And thank you to everyone for the kind birthday wishes x.”
In the photos, she showed off her sparkling engagement ring as the two posed while holding up drinks.
King was previously married to The Fray’s Joe King after meeting in 2012. They tied the knot in October 2014 and welcomed a daughter in January 2016, followed by another baby girl in December 2020. King filed for divorce in May 2022.
Meanwhile, she and Krueger were first linked in 2023 after they sat next to each other at a dinner with their former Vampire Diaries and Originals costars. They hard-launched the romance at the end of the year in a video on King’s Instagram page, which featured them sharing a kiss.
In February 2025, King was by Krueger’s side at the premiere of Yellowjackets Season 3. His character, Coach Ben, was killed off in the latest season. King is reuniting with TVD executive producer Julie Plec in Prime Video’s TV adaptation of We Were Liars, which premieres on June 18.
After the couple confirmed their engagement, they were flooded with supportive messages on Instagram. Nina Dobrev popped in to say, “Congratulations,” with a series of emojis, while Hannah Brown wrote, “YAYYY!! Congrats Candace!! So happy for yall!!” Fans also expressed their excitement with Vampire Diaries GIFs and memes.
