‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Author Jenny Han Makes Surprising Reveal About Belly’s Choice in Final Season

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is just under two months away from arriving on Prime Video, and as we gear up for a return to Cousins Beach with Belly (Lola Tung) and the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), author Jenny Han is offering some interesting insights about heartbreak on the horizon.
As fans will recall, Season 2 concluded with Belly choosing Jeremiah after her relationship with Conrad broke down amid the loss of his mom, Susannah (Rachel Blanchard). While Belly and Conrad were seemingly civil, it was clear that his feelings for her weren’t gone, despite his inability to share that with her.
So, where do things stand when Season 3 picks up? Based on the season’s teasers, Belly and Jeremiah are going strong, but the fan debate over Team Conrad versus Team Jeremiah remains strong. “I feel like I’m doing my job if people are really fighting for their sides,” Han told EW.

While the stars aren’t necessarily rooting for specific relationships, Briney admitted to the outlet, “It’s nice to have people actively being like, ‘I root for your character.'”
And although fans are eager to see Belly make a choice, Tung isn’t opposed to Team Belly in that scenario. “It’s about what she’s feeling. It’s her story,” the actress pointed out in the interview. “But I do appreciate when you see people switching their perspective, where they’re like, ‘Wait, okay, I was always this team, but I can kind of see [the other side now].’ Because that means we’re doing our jobs. And it’s a beautiful thing to see the love [Belly] has for both people.”
As Han sees it, “A successful love triangle is one where, no matter what happens, people are going to be devastated and heartbroken. Because if the answer feels really clear and easy, then there’s no real conflict. No matter what you do, someone’s going to be hurt by it.”
Does this mean Belly will make a choice after rumors that she might pick herself? According to Han, she hopes fans find the ending “satisfying” no matter what team they’re rooting for.
“They say even though heartbreak sucks and hurts real bad, that means that you felt something, right?” Tung said. “So even if you walk away from it feeling a little heartbroken and sad, it’s like, ‘At least we were able to make you feel something.’ You’re here to break hearts as much as fill hearts.”
Only time will tell, but stay tuned as we get ready to dive back into the love-triangle drama with The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.
