‘Bridgerton’s Chris Fulton: All About Sir Phillip & His Future with Eloise
What To Know
- Chris Fulton plays Sir Phillip Crane in Bridgerton Seasons 1 and 2.
- Showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed Eloise will end up with Phillip.
- Swooon asked Brownell about the recasting rumors at the time of Season 4’s premiere.
Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) may not be totally Team Marriage yet, but she’s coming around to the idea by the end of Bridgerton Season 4. It’s a good thing, since showrunner Jess Brownell plans to give Eloise the same endgame she gets in Julia Quinn’s To Sir Phillip, With Love.
She won’t be taking center stage in Bridgerton Season 5, but we have a feeling her love story will be told in Season 6. When Eloise does become the lead of the Regency romance, she won’t end up alone or with her fleeting Season 2 love interest, print shop worker Theo (Calam Lynch). Brownell told Swooon that “she’s ending up with the love interest from her book.”
Said love interest, as you may have guessed from the title, is Sir Phillip. The character last appeared in Season 2 and was played by Chris Fulton. In August 2026, rumors began circulating about Fulton’s involvement in the Netflix series going forward. Keep reading for everything we know about Fulton’s upcoming projects, his Outlander history, and more below.
Who is Sir Phillip Crane in Bridgerton?
Phillip Crane enters the Bridgerton world in Season 1, looking for Marina (Ruby Barker), a distant Featherington cousin who moves in with her relatives. She’s pregnant with the twins of Phillip’s late brother. He died in battle, so the dutiful Phillip offers to marry her in his honor. Thinking she’s no longer with child, Marina rejects him at first, but she accepts when she finds out she was mistaken.
Season 2 gives a little more insight into Phillip’s character. When Colin (Luke Newton) visits the Crane estate to see his former flame Marina, Phillip animatedly asks about the plants he’d seen on his travels. (An interest he has in common with his book counterpart.)Marina urges him to change the topic, prompting Phillip to admit he gets carried away by his interests.
It’s the first hint that their union is an unhappy one. Marina tells Colin that not everyone gets a “fairy tale” ending. Marina is content with her kids, and though they aren’t in love, she thinks Phillip is a good father.

Who is Chris Fulton?
Fulton, 37, hails from Scotland. Not much is known about his early life, but he grew up in Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, where his parents run the King’s Arms Hotel. He went on to train at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, earning a degree in acting in 2012.
What has Chris Fulton been in before?
Fulton landed his first screen role in 2015, in the British soap Doctors. That same year, he appeared in the BBC drama Stonemouth. He’s steadily been working in TV and film since then, making his feature film debut in 2018’s Outlaw King. His TV credits include Clique, Succession, The Witcher, and The Lazarus Project.
Fulton has appeared in yet another period drama: Outlander. In Season 7, Fulton’s Rob Cameron becomes the colleague of Claire’s daughter, Brianna (Sophie Skelton), when she joins the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board. He’s unhappy to be working underneath Brianna, and he reveals his villainous side quickly.

When he finds out about Brianna’s time-traveling secret and gets intel that there’s Jacobite gold hidden in the past, Rob kidnaps Brianna’s son. Long story short, things don’t go his way in the end. (Needless to say, Rob is a far cry from Sir Phillip in Bridgerton.)
What are Chris Fulton’s upcoming projects?
On August 6, 2026, PBS announced that Fulton would star in its upcoming series Monarch of the Glen. At the time of the cast reveal, the network shared that production for the new series was currently taking place in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and is set to air in 2027.
Will Phillip be in Bridgerton Season 5?
Despite Brownell’s comments about Eloise’s endgame, Fulton hasn’t yet been confirmed for Season 5, which is currently filming. But production also has kept many details under wraps. We do know that it will center around Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela’s (Masali Baduza) romance, but there’s been no mention of what Eloise will get up to in the meantime. Presumably, she’ll lead Season 6, which has already been greenlit.
Has Chris Fulton been recast in Bridgerton?
Just as Fulton hasn’t been confirmed for Season 5, we don’t know for sure whether he’ll reprise his role in future seasons. However, Brownell’s confirmation of Eloise’s future love interest during her interview with Swooon came about when we asked her if Fulton would return, not who Eloise’s endgame was.
“I’ll say this,” Brownell began in response to whether Phillip had been recast. “I think we are interested in honoring the love interest from Eloise’s book. I can dispel, she’s not ending up with Theo. She’s ending up with the love interest from her book. What exactly that looks like? I don’t want to speak too much on because I want to keep it focused on Luke and Yerin for now before we talk about future seasons too much.”
