‘Love Island USA’ Investigation: Why Did Ace Vote to Save Huda From Elimination?

It’s been a rough few days for Love Island USA‘s Huda Mustafa.
During Episode 12, the public voted for Jeremiah Brown — who Huda’s been dead set on since Day One — to partner up with someone else. That left Huda up for elimination, which she narrowly escaped thanks to (some of) her fellow Islanders’ support. That’s when things started unraveling for the Season 7 breakout star, who was left trying to figure out America’s reasoning and where she stood with Jeremiah in the following episode.
But as is par for the course with the reality dating show, the villa was thrown into chaos yet again. On June 17, Huda was once more on verge of being sent home. She remained single after Jeremiah chose to go after another contestant, seemingly closing the door on his and Huda’s relationship. That left Huda and newer bombshell Jalen Brown in the bottom two.
One by one, the safe Islanders walked over to stand with the contestant they thought deserved to stay. The girls rallied behind Huda, while most of the guys backed up Jalen. The only two that didn’t were Taylor and — to our enormous shock — Ace Greene.
So why did Ace save Huda? #LoveIslandUSA

Ace, who’s been voicing his concerns about Huda and Jeremiah all season long! He was even among the contestants who voted in favor of Huda’s elimination two days ago. “I’ve seen one person be so sure that someone is they match, and the other person feel the same about them, and be so locked in and closed off within Day One,” he explained. “And to me, it’s bullsh*t. You’re here to experience and find love, and I don’t feel this person has really done that.”
Seriously, what’s changed? Ace didn’t seem very enthusiastic about his decision during the voting, brushing off Huda’s hand when she tried to express her gratitude for his support. “Hell no,” he scoffed as he did it.
Did his heart-to-heart with Huda in Episode 13 make a difference? After Ace voted for her elimination during the June 15 episode, she pulled him for a chat to get some clarity. He reinforced that her immediate steadfastness to Jeremiah was a “red flag” — but then Huda revealed to him that she’s a single mother, which makes dating difficult. He seemed sympathetic, offering that he understands where she’s coming from since he raised by a single mom.
Honestly, we aren’t sure that’s what determined Ace’s vote last night. We’re betting it has more to do with Chelley Bissainthe, who he (finally) officially coupled up with during the episode. After how long their will-they-won’t-they dynamic went on, he’s probably eager to make her happy, and Chelley and Huda have been close throughout the season so far. Rocking the boat this early on would be a risk and could have lost him a few points with Chelley and hurt his position in the game.
Equally as likely is that he wanted to help Taylor Williams out by getting rid of his competition. Jalen could have ended up winning back Olandria Carthen’s heart, leaving Taylor single and (currently) without any potential connections in the villa.
What factor do you think played the biggest role in Ace’s surprising vote? Sound off in the comments!
