‘The Pitt’: Which Ships Should Get Together in Season 2? (POLL)

John Johnson/HBO; Warrick Page/Max (2)

The format of The Pitt doesn’t lend itself to too much time spent on the hospital staff’s personal lives. The medical drama is told in real time, with each episode covering one hour and each season one shift. But in the first season, there were bits and pieces about Robby (Noah Wyle) and Collins’ (Tracy Ifeachor) past as well as other flirtations and connections caught by fans.

When TV Insider spoke with executive producer R. Scott Gemmill about the finale, the plan did seem like that won’t change for Season 2, and we shouldn’t expect much, if any, romance.

“If you’ve ever been in an ER, it’s not maybe the most romantic place you’d go for a hookup. You’d have to be in a real certain state, I think,” he explained. “It was a byproduct of what the show is essentially. It’s all set in the ER, and it takes place over 15 hours. So how much can you do within that 15 hours in terms of say, Javadi [Shabana Azeez] meeting somebody or somebody new? It takes usually more than a 15-hour workday to create a relationship. So, we may hint at things moving forward, but we’re not going to find anyone having sex in a broom closet any time soon.”

But considering that there will be a significant time jump of about 10 months between seasons, with the second taking place over the Fourth of July weekend, there could have been developments off-screen that we’ll find out about over the course of the shift through conversations or brief moments.

In addition to seeing a possible future for Robby and Collins, there’s also the possibility of Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) and Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Langdon (Patrick Ball) and King (Taylor Dearden) — though he is married — and Javadi and Mateo (Jalen Thomas Brooks). In fact, Hatosy shared that Abbot was flirting with Mohan in his own way in Season 1 Episode 14 when praising her about a procedure.

“I think he’s kind of, in his own weird and ‘I’m not trying to be creepy’ way, flirting in the only way that he can. I think he actually has a ton of respect for Dr. Mohan,” he said. “There was a scene — I’m not sure if it made it, I don’t think it did — in the first episode where somebody says something about her, and he comes out and says, ‘She’s the smartest one here.’ And I think he has such respect for her. So like I said, I think it was his way of just kinda trying to keep it warm there with her.”
