Did Liza & Josh End Up Together on ‘Younger’? Darren Star Weighs In

The ending of Younger left things a bit up in the air for Liza (Sutton Foster) in terms of her love life. After rekindling things with Charles (Peter Hermann) and then ending their relationship once again, she had a sweet moment with Josh (Nico Tortorella) when they ran into each other in a bar, mirroring the first time they met in Season 1.
But was the Season 7 series finale meant to imply that Liza and Josh ended up together? Amid the show’s renewed success since being added to Netflix this year, creator Darren Star chimed in on the couple’s finale status.
“It left it open-ended,” he confirmed in an interview with Deadline. “It wasn’t a definitive choice, but there is definitely a full circle feeling to it.” Star also said it was the ending he had planned for the show from the very beginning.
With that being said, the open-ended storyline left much to explore, and with the series’ popularity soaring on Netflix, many fans are wondering if it could be revived with new episodes on the streamer. Star admitted that he hasn’t been approached about another season, but said it would be a “fun conversation to have.”
“I would do some sort of revival,” he admitted. “It’s something I would be very excited to pursue, and just in these conversations I’ve had with the cast, it’s something they would be excited to do if the timing was right for everyone. I have to say, the cast had the most amazing chemistry with each other, and it was a real delightful experience for all of us to make that show together.”
In addition to Foster, Tortorella, and Hermann, Younger also starred Hilary Duff, Miriam Shor, and Debi Mazar. The show aired weekly on TV Land, but Star said he always felt like it would be a good binge-watch.
When I was doing Younger, it was made to be bingeable, every episode sort of had a cliffhanger,” he explained. “I thought, ‘Oh, this could get on streaming, it’s going to feel very streamable and bingeable.’ So I was hoping, but you never know. I mean, my dream was to see the show get acquired by Netflix, and it was wonderful when it happened. I wasn’t sure, I could imagine how well it would do, but I just wanted it to have an opportunity to be seen, exposed to a wider audience.”
