Jeremiah Brown has been off of the island for two days, and he’s ready to tell-all about his explosive relationship with fellow Love Island USA contestant Huda Mustafa.

Season 7 viewers saw the Day 1 couple enter a blissful honeymoon stage — during which they closed themselves off to making other connections — nearly right off the bat. Toward the end of Jeremiah’s 18-episode run, things turned “a little toxic” between them, in his words.

After his June 22 elimination, Jeremiah appeared on The Viall Files podcast to give insight into his journey in the villa and how his relationship with Huda went downhill. Despite a few minor issues, Jeremiah says that things really were going well with Huda for the first week or so. She checked all of his physical and emotional boxes, Jeremiah added, and he didn’t want to ruin that by talking to other girls.

As fans might’ve already assumed from the show, though, Jeremiah confirmed that what he calls the “Pancake Day” was the real turning point. (We’re referring to the instance Jeremiah served Huda undercooked pancakes, which prompted her to ask Jeremiah to “do more” in their relationship.)

During the podcast episode, Jeremiah explained that he had told Huda how he acted in his last relationship and did boyfriend things — you know, flowers, nice restaurants, and the works — to make his then-partner feel special. He said that gave Huda unrealistic expectations for their time together in the villa, but he also didn’t communicate that he felt things were moving too fast.

“She kind of took that as who I need to be now, and I didn’t nip that in the bud, so I take responsibility,” Jeremiah added. “I didn’t sit her down and be like, ‘Yo, that’s not who I am.’ Instead, I said, ‘You know what, you’re right. Let me be Superman already. Because it takes me a long time to get to ‘Super Boyfriend.’”

“It takes me months to get there,” he noted. “That’s not who I am three days in the villa.”

In addition to the expectations, he thinks that getting intimate with Huda too soon was what set them up for failure. “This was a mistake on both of our parts,” he said.

There were a few things that viewers didn’t see, though, particularly when it came to the several discussions they had about Huda’s daughter. “We talked about her daughter on the date and during the pink couch conversation,” Jeremiah clarified.

However, Jeremiah did mention that though he’s only watched a few episodes in part, he feels that the portrayal of their relationship was pretty accurate overall. “There was a lot of instances where we were just talking, and she would, you know, crash out,” he begins. “I have nothing but respect for her still. There were some moments where I was watching myself and I’m just like, ‘Bro, get up. Don’t take that.’ But when you’re on no sleep, it’s hard to know if you’re in the right or the wrong.”
